Considering downsizing to 18"

Being that I use my 997s as a daily driver and I practically spend the entire day in my car in the jungle that is Los Angeles, I'm considering switching to an 18" setup. I have a feeling that this will significantly improve the ride. Lately, the bumps and bruises are starting to get to me. I've considered buying an extra car to dd but I figue downsizing might do the trick. Any thoughts. I understand this issue has been discussed previously but the conversation surrounded around tracking issues.

Read the recent articles in Excellence about the 100% street manners of the C2 Cabriolet (and past articles). They find the 18" setup to be much more comfortable on the road - makes sense with more sidewall.

Pick up a set of oem 18" take offs on ebay or from a place like Wheel Enhancement or Champion. I've seen new (5 miles) sets of wheels, tires, and even TPMS sensors for $1,300 to $2,000 tops. That's with new PS2 tirse to boot.

I think 18" is a better size, but because of cost and selection of tires, especially if you do track stuff. You may be disappointed if you expect a significant improvement in ride quality. You would probably feel as much difference in going to a softer sidewall tire, and/or lowering the pressure a bit. Obviously, those two factors equal, the 18" tire has more sidewall to flex and soften the ride, but I've never found the difference that noticeable.

I agree 100%, but it's too late to buy a Cayenne. I believe the car does provide a quality ride. I just need to ease the pain a little.

RonCT - Thanks for advice. Just checked ebay, full of junk and replicas at the moment.

Marc - Have you gone 18"?

DJ- Mostly city. About 90/10. Running PS2's with no TPMS. PASM only adjustability is the harsher setup.

Check the completed auctions at eBay too - might find one that ended recently and maybe you can track down the owner via another item he has listed. I've found things that way too...

What are you running for tire pressures? I hated the ride when using the factory recommended numbers. I ride with 32psi in front and 36psi in the rear with my 19's and it's very comfortable. I don't think it hurts the cornering on the street.

I totally agree with you. I started with the factory settings and went to 33 and 37psi. I notice my rear tires wearing more evenly too....
