My New C4

Greetings,

I'm a newbie here but have been a lurker for quite some time. After owning mostly BMWs for most of my driving career (10 of them to be exact), I decided a 911 was next on my list. Admittedly, I was coerced a bit by my good pal STR8BLST (thanks, Alan) and a summertime ride (pre-600hp or whatever he has in it now) in his 996 TT.

I started my search for a used 996TT, but I couldn't see myself spending $60k to $70k on a 5 year old car with no warranty. Plus, I really love the 997 body style, so I started looking for a used 997. I had my heart set on a C2S and came pretty close to pulling the trigger on one, but at the last minute backed out of the deal due to uncovering some dishonesty by the seller. Long story short - I found this brand new '06 C4 on eBay, got a killer deal on it, and had it shipped from Missouri to NJ. Black would have been my last color choice if I was able to order this car, as well as the lack of many options I would have preferred, but all in all the price was right and the car is simply amazing.

On to the pics - keep in mind I had the car out last night and it unexpectedly started raining. I will be doing a fanatical detail on Saturday and more, higher-res pics will be posted.

Mods planned - RSS Intake Plenum, Porsche SSK, 20" Rinspeed C5/1's, H&R Springs, Exhaust, ECU Upgrade, EVO Intake

Congradulations, I like black on the 997.

I like what you have planned for it, H&R Springs are superb and very sportive.
Do get Bilistien Shocks to compliment the ride.

As for Exhaust I would really reccomend you to go with AWE Mufflers and EVOMS headers, Just listen to their 997 Carrera Video it really sounds terrific.

Regarding the wheels, Rinspeed do look very good but why not settle for 19" at least they could be slightly lighter and wont degrade the ride. I am not sure if rinspeed offers their 5 spoke design in 19, but I reckon Ive seen it in 19" diameter somewhere.

Thanks guys...

I've already started to scratch the itch - let the mods begin! - I met with Paul from Protosport this morning.. very nice and knowledgeable.. he suggested doing the ECU upgrade first then see how I feel about the power.. he too suggested the H&R springs and some type of special exhaust modification to give it the sound of the 911 "Sport" exhaust they used to have.. he also agreed on the short shift kit as well. So I think it may have to get dropped off soon.

I want to try to keep the car as stock as possible, just do minor upgrades and a few tweaks to enhance the performance and personalize it a bit. Resale value is important to me and as I've learned, doing lots of mods sometimes hurt it. I'm fanatical about my cars so when it comes time to move on, it will be perfect and tastefully modded. (Getting stuck in the rain the other night was probably the last time the car will see rain as long as I own it).

I agree on the 19" vs 20" issue but I really like the look of the Rinspeed's - I don't believe they make them in 19" though.. if anyone knows, feel free to chime in.

Thanks again everyone - the car is positively amazing and loads of fun. I find myself not wanting to wait till the end of the day and just go home and drive it around aimlessly.

No problem, I understand you would like to personalise it abit and what you have planned sounds great and not too flashy; which is a great thing.

I hope you achieve what you want with your C4 997 and Good luck!

Congrats, beautiful car. Just curious, why didn't you go with an "S"?

Very Risky,

Truthfully, all the dealers locally wouldn't negotiate to where I wanted to be on a new "S", (or even a base Carrera, for that matter) - plus all the cars the dealers had were optioned heavily.. so even after a reasonable discount, the cars were still out of my target budget.. when I inquired about ordering a car, they wouldn't discount it much since they assume a risk that your won't take the car and that your customized car will be tough to sell.. plus they'd rather move their inventory, which I can understand.

The only used "S" cars I could find were pretty far out of the local area.. and I wasn't about to drive 500 miles to determine a car had a shimmy in the front end that the seller didn't tell me about or notice, or was hit and repainted, had worn seat bolsters, or scratches on the door sills, or something else that I would have been fanatical about.

Additionally, this car was a steal.. it was almost a no-brainer..I paid close to what a used 2005 C2 with 12k miles was going for at a local dealer.. nothing beats "new" IMHO..

My goal is to try to get "S" performance out of it.. with some time, a few bucks, and the help of this board, I'm confident I can get there..

nice. just got a 'new to me" c2s and i know what it's like to get new versus pre-owned. then again a truck dumped a whole load of debris on the road today and my hood is nicked down to the aluminium! it woudln't have mattered if the car was new or not!
i'm fanatic about my cars too but my 110 miel rt commute kills any chance of keeping it pristine so i'll have to live with the nicks and scratches.
i love the car though and i'm sure you'lllove yours too!

I'm actually in the Wayne area.. I think I may meet up with a bunch of 6 speeders on Sunday at a meet at Riverside Square in Hackensack.. my friend Alan (STR8BLST) was organizing.. I'd like to see some other 997's and see what else people have done as well as get some feedback on some of the mods I have planned..
