I would personally preffer the manual gearbox as its much more fun to drive and involves the driver more. However at the end of the day your getting a Porsche thats a quiet a sportive experience as a Daily Driver.

Just test drive both the manual and the tiptronic and which ever you choose you wont regret it.

You will regret it if you get the Tip and you will get hit on the resale. You can't go wrong with the stick.

As long as you understand how manuals work (i.e, you've driven bikes, quads, etc), then I think go for it.

Guys thanks for all the lively discussion. So here is what I just pulled the trigger on. A Black 2005 911S with sport crono and with.............manual. So now I got to learn how to drive the damn thing. Which I'm not worried about at all and I can use the land rover for the kids. It's going to be fun and awesome driving experience.

I was in the same situation as you about 10 years ago. I had never owned a car with manual tranny. I had tried to drive a few friend's cars with stick once or twice but didn't do very well. Then I decided to buy a Nissan 300ZX - with stick. When I picked it up, I brought along a friend who had driven stick all his life, and we spent a few hours on an empty road and he taught me. It took about a week or so for me to be confident to drive the car on any and all roads. After that I loved it and never regretted my decision. Oh yeah, and I lived in West LA at the time - horrible traffic everywhere at all times.

Get the stick.

i think that is the best way to avoid really screwing up your car or even a friends that might spend time to teach you.
Awesome idea. I think I'll use this for anyone who begs me to teach them to drive manual.

C'mon, you'll be able to learn in 1 to 2 hours. The hardest part is being on inclines. Try to stay clear of them for a few days. No biggy.

Congratulations on your new car! You made a good decision.

I learned to drive stick two years ago (when I was 15 and a half) on an '05 997S cab...first time I'd ever driven a manual car.

You can do it!

Progress report: Took out the 977s today with a friend for the first time. Holy S%!T the car is off the charts! I learned how to drive it in about 30 minutes although I still stall from time to time. But the power blows my Audi S4 out of the water (really no comparision) It's almost scary how much power there is in this car. It's hard to drive slow.
