Much needed advice. Let the debate begin.

Ok so here the deal. Right now I'm in a 05.5 GMG modded Audi S4 and I'm about to pull the trigger on a 997 C4S. Wait for it..................wait.....

Never had a manual gear box in my life.

There I said it. Don't know the first thing about stick. But I'm torn ...all I hear is how much more "fun" or "connected" the experience is. But the one thing is the C4S will become the daily driver with plenty of traffic in the mornings on the way to drop off my daughter at school.

Right now i'm leaning towards just going with another triptronic like my s4. But I'm feeling like I'd be missing something in the 997 if it were tip.

Should I just buck up and go for the manual or should I just slide into the comfort zone of the tip? (which is still fast as hell in a 997) ugh. let me know your thoughts. I know some of you might have strong opions on this.

Agree. Get the manual (stick). My 997S is also a daily driver, I also drop my kids off at school and tackle the traffic every day (what a waste!), however I wait patiently for the weekends or the twisty stuff where a tiptronic just cant cut it. You'll learn quickly. Get a manual.

Definentaly a manuel, however I understand where you are coming from with the traffic issues. I am in bumper to bumper traffic every morning, sometimes for 2 hours. I just can't drive a stick everyday, thats why I had to pass up getting a 997 right now... and I personally would never buy a 911 in a tiptronic.

Gomez, I own both, a 997 C2 (tiptronic) and 997 C2S (stick) and the apart from the power/torque difference, I just loved the stick 997.. Yes you definately feel alot more "connected" with the stick shift and it is loads of fun.. I live in L.A. myself and have to travel to and fro between my house and college,so I definately do miss the tip at times during rush hours, but the stick shift is just in a league of its own...

I suffer a similar affliction never having had a stick available. Im on my 4th porsche tip! I drive every day in NYC traffic and love the pcar. About six weeks ago I had hand surgery after an injury, at this point id still be porsche- less without the tip as i wouldnt be able to shift effectively, even a few days after surgery i coiuld drive with my splint and shift with the tip buttons!!

i learned stick on my 993, picked up a $25 a day stick rental the week before though.
i think that is the best way to avoid really screwing up your car or even a friends that might spend time to teach you.

The 997 in manual tranny form is so easy to drive. I also have a B6 S4 in stick and the clutch is so hard to modulate and lacks feel. If you were talking about another S4, I'd say go tiptronic, but since you're talking about a 997, DEFINITELY go stick. You have no idea what you're missing.

That's a great idea. Work out all the kinks the week before in a rental. Nice. thanks for that. Will do.

The way I look at it, traffic just allows you to shift more often. It's a pleasure not a pain. I'd go with the stick too

True... But if you are a noob with the stick, you might end up with a burnt clutch..Once you get the hang of it,then it isn't really an issue..

Naa man.. Am from chandigarh actually (bout 250 miles away from New Delhi).. Have a 997 C2 as mentioned.. Haven't posted pix of it here.. Shifted to L.A. as my college is starting this year,so bought another 997; this time a C2S in Lapis Blue... Yet to get the detailing done,in order to post some pictures.. I must say though, I am yet to come across any user/member on this forum having a 997 in Lapis Blue...
