Suspension and brakes upgrade report
I got my car back from Karl and Stehpen at Imagine earlier this week after having some updates done to the chasis and brakes. After driving Stephen's screaming yellow 977TT I decided I had to have the six piston front calipers. I just about went through the windshield the first time I stepped on his brake pedal with the same rigor I would normally apply to my, none to shabby stock 997S set up. After some research I ordered the Brembo GT system with six piston calipers and two piece 380 mm rotors and replaced all the brake lines with Goodridge steel braided lines. The first lesson learned was that while the brakes fit inside my Kinesis K19R's, the valve stem design exiting the barrel of the reverse design wheel wouldn't clear the caliper. Well, I was thinking of something a little more aggressive looking anyway, so on went the Champion RG5's with a new set of Pilot Sport PS2's. The performance of these brakes is incredible. Great feel and eye popping stops. I have a track event in three weeks, so I'll have more to say after giving them a true workout. New PS2's are always nice and the Champion wheels are stellar. Even my wife likes them better than the K19r's, thank God she doesn't know how much both sets cost!
No issues whatsoever with the installation of the PASM enabled Bilstein PSS coilovers. These are the PASM enabled units that provide a normal and sport mode from the cockpit just like the stock set up. I replaced a set of cargraphic springs and stock shocks with the coilovers. With the height exactly as they came from Bilstein, the car isn't quite as low as it was with the well broken in lowering springs. My lip spoiler doesn't scrape going in and out of the driveway! The ride quality in the normal mode is still very supple, but without any bounce and less body roll. Better rebound damping all around. In the sport mode things get serious, but still less jarring on the street than the lowering springs with PASM in sport. No appreciable brake dive, no bump steer and no wallowing when driven hard on less than ideal surfaces. If you can afford these over springs alone, by all means do it.
I've attached a link to some poorly shot photos to give a look at the ride height with the Bilsteins. I’ll post a better shot of the front brakes later. The rear end shot shows a couple of newer bits of carbon fiber bling to tie the whole thing together. Both the diffuser from t-Carbon and the mini-wing from Directcartoys are very well done.
