Nürburgring and brakes
Nürburgring and brakes
I have been attending a 4 days driving course on Nürburing which included the Nordscleife and the GP track. The course was amazing and a heaven for all Petrol heads with Carrera GT, lots of new GT RS, Ruf's, Lambos, with M3 and all kind of Porsches making the numbers. Since I have a stock Carrera with Techart springs, Castrol SRF brakefluid and Preformance fricton brakepads as the only upgrade, I was confident that I woul loose out because of bhp and brakes.
One of the last days we had two races on the GP track, one with rolling and one standing start. This was happening was one of the big highlights during the course, and all drivers was very keen to do well. To those who have been there/seen the F1 races, this is a very demanding track for brakes and you really need all the bhp you can get.
Especially the first corner was very exciting, I think I will never forget this moment. Four cars side by side in severeal rows entered the first sharp right hander well over 200 km, all braking hard the very last moment, with the tails shaking, to get best possible positions.
To my surprise I could keep up with most of the guys with lots of bhp and big Brembos, AP Racing, PCCB and other special brake setup. I lost out on the long straights but gained lot in the braking zones. Not because I am especially good braker, but because the brakes gave me such confidence. Excellent feel with smooth braking, balancing on the ABS. Not once, during the course did I experience trouble with brakes (and it was hard driving all day) either with long pedal or fading.
I give all the credit to Preformance fricton compound 97 and Castrol SRF. Before you guys, go and buy new expensive brake systems, I recommend to try this combination first. Ok, the pads screams a bit when hot under light braking and creates som more dust the OEM, but thats all.
For more info.

Does someone else have some nice brake setup to recommend?
Some pictures.

Very interesting stuff, fellow Nordic neighbor - thank you for sharing!!
Did you do a whole run or a few turns at a time? I imagine they will start to fade once you put on some distance. Still mighty impressive they kept up with the competition.
Oh, got any more pics?

The course was divided in sections and runs on tracks. I did several runs continous on both the nordscleife and the GP track without any sort of fading. The only problem, especially on the GP track, was massive increase in tire pressure, so you had the bleed all the time.
Will try to post more pictures tonight.

Thanks for pix. I am curious as to how the Audi (RS?) did on the 'Ring wrto the rest of the field. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I didn't see the R8 in action, but I guess it goes rather well with the instructor behind the wheel. Herr Müller is a old VLN driver and has a own VLN racing team with drivers like Winkelhock. He is also a instructor for the Audi driving experience.
Can't decide if the R8 is good looking or not yet. Ok sound though.

Correct, the GT2 belongs to Anders.
I had dinner in Pistenklase with a guy from Sweden who had a black Ruf R Turbo. He was in the same group as Anders.
Also in the same table, J.P Lieb from Ruf, I guess you know him. He was in the same group as me.
