Navigation Question

Is it possible to add a navigation unit and Xenon headlight unit after you purchase your car? would dealer install and sell these parts as well?

navigation

I am not sure why one would bop the cost of nav., the add on units are much better and about 25% of the cost and can be moved between cars. That is the way I am going.

I have the Nav and mostly I use just the map feature ( I am not spacially challenged ) Lol

Having the Nav built in , lets me control it from the steering wheel( zoom in-out etc.)
Something that can't be done with an aftermarket unit .
I am very happy with it and would definitely buy it again.

Not $5K

I can't remember the final tally, but I added NAV & SAT after delivery.

It sure wasn't $5K for the parts and work. They did my install in 1 day. Check with the parts department, and then factor in 8 hours or less for labor and that should be the total. Just NAV should be 4 hours of labor or so.

I do have a Garmin Nuvi for my other car, and find it useful, but I prefer the integrated solution. I already have a radar detector on my windshield, and I prefer to keep the windshield free of devices that could block my vision.

Renntech has a nice write-up on adding the product after delivery.

I have no regrets on getting it done. If you have the cash, it is a decent unit. Not the best, but still not bad.

how much do you think it will cost to have the nav install? did they have to change out the complete head unit?? some dealers are telling me that they have to change out the head unit and install a new one. but on my head unit, it has navi and map button.. I thought it was a simple add on like cd changer.

should I just get after market xenon or OEM? for some reason, dealers are having hard time locating the parts.

Don't recall

I don't recall if they changed the head unit or not. I believe they did, but I can't be sure.

$2K probably is a bit light. I see on Renntech that a guy at Carlsen porsche got the parts $2229, installation not included.

If you only have $2K, you might be looking at other options. I know their are others that make parts that fit, and cost less. I prefered to keep Porsche parts only in the car.

Best of luck.

Since you don’t have a 997, how do you know anything about the NAV? The NAV in the 997 works great. I have an aftermarket one in the Toyota and it is a pain in the ***. (Suction cups cig lighter jack) Factory NAV is the way to go.

don't you lose your sleep over me owning a porsche or not buddy!

if you pony up a little more money for the aftermarket Nav you would know the difference between how inferior the factory OEM NAVs are.

hey guys, no fighting now

with OEM you pay for integration. i'd rather pay more and have something hanging on the dash or windshield.

For me, it's the OEM anyday. Hate having to worry about car being broken in and someone taking my aftermarket nav.
