For the Carrera S, doesn't one need to drop the clutch at 5k rpms to get into the low 4s? Something not advisable I should assume.

4k on up we got nasty rear end hopping with an abrupt dumping of the clutch.

That's why this car needs a locking diffy. Wheel hop is normally a traction issue, and with only one wheel getting the power down and soft control arm bushings is a recipe for wheel hop.

taratko is infamous around these parts
I have a 2006 C2S with a Tip and it is my DD. I love it as is, and, if you learn to shift it with the Tip, or train the Tip, IMHO it will be faster. I don't believe there are many non-pro drivers who can shift a 6-sp faster than the Tip shifts. I think the Tip is quicker than the 6-sp on that basis. I would not have it different, and I previously had a 993 C2 with a 6-sp.

As a DD, the 997 is peerless. My other love is a 2002 BMW 530 Sport, with the auto (Sportronic sp?) and it was - until the 997 - the best auto I haver ever owned. The 997 makes me grin every time I get into it, even from the train station and back daily.
