looking to hear aftermarket exhausts in Atlanta

My new C4S didn't have the PSE option and before I pay the $ to add it (all my other 911s had PSE) I'd like to look in to some aftermarket mufflers (not entire system).

Does anyone in the Atlanta area have a 997 with a Fabspeed, Europipe, AWE or other non PSE exhauists that I could possibly take a listen to?...

I'd like to know this too.

Even though it is a cart before the horse situation for me...

Unless... I'm able to get home and see Atlshavers ride before he sells that gorgeous thing...

The Alabama PCA Club is having a DE at Barbers this weekend. Might be worth a drive over to see if you find what you are looking for.

I see that registration is online only and closed 7 days before the event, since I'm only interested in poking around for exhaust info and observing, do you think I could still get in?

I'm assuming you've heard the PSE on the 997 already (you didn't say what models you had before), but if not I'm in Alpharetta and have the PSE on an '07 S.

No problem. We ought to get together for a drive sometime. There are several other local folks on rennsouth.com and there are a lot of events.

haven't found anyone with aftermarket exhausts in the Atlanta area so I decided to do some experimenting.

I removed both mufflers today.

My observation so far is that changing the mufflers or even entire exhaust on a 997 has to fall in to the trivial category. Everything is very accessible and there isn't much. Swapping mufflers could easily be done in 30 minutes without a lift so experimenting is very easy.

The sound of the mufflerless exhaust is somewhat louder than with the mufflers but much deeper. There is a very loud and distinct drone in the car that is way beyond annoying. I define drone as a resonant effect caused by exhaust notes (or any other sound or vibration) exciting resonant modes within the body structure or cabin. The exhaust, without mufflers actually doesn't seem that much louder on the outside but with the windows up the resonance is extreme and unless you're deaf, only useful on the track (where a helmet and ear plugs would help).

Opening the windows actually helps reduce the drone somewhat and a convertable would probably eliminate most of the drone. The exhaust note is pretty good but now I'm looking for a more "European" note, not as low and deep as this.

I've toyed with making my own mufflers (I have a fab shop) since I can't find anything to listen to live. BTW, I got the idea for removing the mufflers from the Fabspeed site where they sell muffler bypass pipes and have videos with sound of the pipes in action. Of course the videos only include external sounds - not the very intense inside droning that removing the mufflers causes. However, a mufflerless exhaust naturally has issues with loudness and droning so I somewhat expected this.

exhaust

Sunracer,

Thanks for the reply. I am strictly looking for a better sound also. I love the 911 but I would like it to have a better exhaust note. I hit the rev limiter way to often because I really can't hear the motor.
This is my weekend car so I would like it to sound more lively. But of course without DRONE or sounding like a rice tuner.

I have been looking at Fabteck as well. Maybe Tubi or EVO. But 2K doesn't excite me that much either.

I had the same issue with my Ninja. 165 HP and with the stock exhaust it was impossible to hear on the track. A $400 carbon slip on exhaust solved that problem perfectly. Plus its lighter, looks nice and won't burn your leg should you happen to touch it. A win win all around

I am really surprised or maybe I am not enlightned at the lack or information, after market products and clubs for the 911.

My ZX10R has over 20 different exhausts I can go with, several awesome forums, and an ENDLESS amount of aftermarket goodies.

6 speedonline is the only decent forum I have found and it pales in comparison to my Kawi forums.

I guess with a 100K car you just go to the dealer, but not my style.

Let me know what you do.

My buddy is about to put a Tubi on his, can't wait to hear it. Although he already as the PSE.

Try APR in Auburn, AL. They were at the DE in Birmingham. They claim there system designed by APR and made by BB is louder than a Miltek but not nearly as loud as an AWE which is supposed to be quieter than a TUBI.

They claim there complete system, headers, cats, muffler BMC A/F, and their software will add 43 Hp and move the torgue curve lower.

Talk to Keith. I was impressed with the way they conduct business.

I had a Fabspeed on my 996, like it a lot, and as a result am getting one installed on my 997S this week. Once it's in, I can meet you so you can hear it- I'm in Atlanta/ Alpharetta.
