am I the only one bothered by the Variable Cam?

Have to say that when the variable cam changes at approximatly 3800 rpms, that pause is really bothering me. Almost feel like a momentary hesitation. Does any body else have this problem on a manual?

I assume you test drove before you purchased? Did you happen to notice the switch then? Just curious... I am pretty **** about cars that I care about too. Even the littlest of things or noises **** me off. So you are not alone.

didn't notice it when I test drove it. Porsche master mechanic says it's normal. hard to believe.

I haven't even noticed it on my 2007 Dec 06 build and I notice everything. Drive another new one a the dealership to compare.

Car pulls hard and smoothly but there is a change in intensity above 4krpm or so. I can't imagine why this is bothering you so something is not right. I like the suggestion of driving another car and checking your perceptions.

Definitely go down the dealers and try another 997 and see if it's the same. If it is and you don't like it, I put AP mufflers and a K&N CAI on my 996 a month ago and the 3.5k step has just about gone - the car pulls better throughout the range (seat of pants dyno). Of course, ymmv!

Of course, you could also just keep the revs up.

You will get a kind of hesitation if you have been driving the car gently and using small throttle inputs. The control unit "learns" that this means you want to conserve fuel so it changes the throttle map being used which affects how the variocam moves to the next position.

Try training the car by (when warm) changing up between 5K - 7K. Do that for about 45 minutes and see if you use light throttle what happens when you go through 4K.
