Rear Ended 997S - Arrggg!
While driving up up I-95 in CT on Friday, in bumper to bumper traffic, I got rear ended by a Camry. As we were in stop and go traffic, the car must've been going <5 mph when it hit me, so the damage is nothing serious (thankfully!). The only damage is an imprint in the left bumper guard from where the screw in her plate pushed it in along with a few scuff marks. Does anyone know where I can buy a prepainted (black) replacement bumper guard? Is it an easy replacement install that I can do myself?
As it was a very nice (and apologetic) young woman driving the Camry, if I can avoid having to submit a damage claim to her insurance company for something inexpensive and easy to fix myself, then I will...
Any help is greatly appreciated...

Just make perfectly sure nothing besides what you can see is damaged. I would personally still claim, no matter how sweet the girl was. You can find yourself with enormous amounts of trouble if she suddenly changes her story and claims, or if something bigger and not immediately visible broke during impact...
I am currently knee-deep in a lawsuit myself after having a taxi ram me from behind at a stoplight -- an incident I am somehow to blame for.
Just a heads up, and I'm glad it wasn't anything serious.

You may need to remove the complete bumper cover to get at the fasteners for the bumperette. It's a two man job if you want to keep it from getting scratched. I'm assuming it is sim to the GT3 RS. Remove all the screws that you can see, top, bott, in the wheel wells. Remove the tail lights by removing the two screws and tipping them out. There is a screw there also.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I think Museel Kar is right. Ithe bumperettes on the 997 is different than 996. You can remove the bumperettes without removing the bumper but you will not be able to put it back. I was reading article in the caymanclub.net
I hope you got her info. Of course the one that caused the accident usually is trying to be nice. I would take it to your local Porsche dealer to make sure nothing else was affected under the bumper cover. You can be surprised. Hopefully not but the girl was prolly on her cell or playing with her radio and not paying attention.
I was dating a hot girl earlier this year when a guy bumped into her 350Z. After exchanging info he actually tried asking her out when he called her on the phone about the accident! Don't do it!! hehe
