Problem w/ new C4S: Car hesitates on acceleration only when newly shifted to "Drive"

Ok, here is the issue:

Purchased a new C4s last week. Tiptronic. The car is in break-in mode, with about 450 miles on the odometer.

Last night, I was making a three point turn. During this common manuever, I put it "reverse" and then back to "drive" so that I can drive off. The problem: when I placed it into "Drive" and pressed the gas, the car had a 1-2 second hesitation before actually moving. The revs shot up and the car stood still. Only after a second or two did the car actually get going to catch up with the throttle.

I have found out that this problem ONLY occurs upon the first time shifting to "Drive". For example, say you have been driving the car in "Drive" for 15 minutes, and come to a stop at a red light. When the light turns green and the gas is pressed, the car will respond immediately. However, if at that stop light I had put the car in "Park" and then shifted back down to "Drive" to take off, the car would hesitate for a few seconds (almost like it was in "Neutral", and finally popped into "Drive")

I assume this is transmission issue: the car is not fully engaged into gear after shifting to "Drive". Who knows....maybe the car is too new and its still getting adjusted via ECU.

Thoughts, comments...thanks.

I'm willing to bet that it has nothing to do with break-in. when you start up the car, put it into drive and then into manual, and downshift on the steeringwheel. see if this gives you a better response.

Russ,

The car is actually starting in 1st gear via the Sport Mode on Sport Chrono. Same issue.

sorry, I'm not going to be much help. Why don't you just take it in to be looked at by the dealer?

Yup, will do monday morning unless the tech heads here say its normal or just temporary during break-in.

I've had hesitation in my 997s since it was new.. 22k on it now. it dosent always happen but it does happen often. I have a manual tranny. it seems to be a fuel delivery problem because its worse when you are low on gas. porsche said it was normal on my car. hope this helps

I have the same issue but I have been told that it has to do with the ECU learning my granny style starts. I get around the issue by slipping the clutch a little more than usual on starts. Do you Turbo guys have the same issue?

If this was "normal" for your car...then why is this characteristic not demonstrated on all 997s cars? I have a manual 997 C4S and never had a problem. I would be very skeptical if Porsche said this was "normal".

i have heard of this problem from many 997s owners. everyone seem to have gotten a different explanation from the dealer. but all were assured that it is "normal". but they seems to all come and go and occurs rarely. hopefully it doesn't mean anything, and it doesn't happen to me!
