Piloti's are fine for the street and DE events. I bought a pair of Sparco Top 2 boots for Skip Barber, great driving/racing shoes but not much fun to walk around in all day.
i have the piloti prototipo, adidas goodyear, and puma (some strange name i can't pronounce...oouiwan...something..lol!)
i think the most comfortable are the adidas goodyear, although they run a bit wide.
try this website...they have the adidas and pumas..

i had good luck with this place. i bought 2 pairs of adidas and 2 pairs of pumas from them. if you type in "driving" or "race" under the search area it will pull them up.

You do not need "racing shoes" for PDE or any DE's. But I highly suggest something thin sole like Piloti, Puma or some Adidas. I have these http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7370311/c/29124.html and they are working out nice. I also have some Piloti's and LOVE THEM!
