I wanted the SS when I ordered my car but it was not available as a factory option at that time.
Ordered the SS from Suncoast and installed it. The SS reduces the 1-2 throw by approx 3cm. Also saved me a lot of money doing it myself.
I really am glad I changed. While others my like the standard shifter, I prefer the short throws of the sprort shifter.

The port size is larger with the X51 than the 997 C2/4 3.6L header.

Not according to Europipe and some other vendors...the X51 headers performed just as good if not better due to the larger port size. AWE only claims 5rwhp for their headers with the mufflers and 200 cpi cats installed.

Interesting. I think I am going to get the AWE muffler w/ tips for now and then get AWE cats and x51 headers next year. best place to get x51 headers would be where...suncoast?

I totally agree. I thought the stock shifter was great. Then, I SC'd. Then, I went to the short shifter. The needle just moves so much faster, and with the remapping and increased breathing (exhaust included) the needle falls faster too. So it just feels better and faster to have the ss. Maybe it's in my head, but it really feels like I can keep the car on boil better. But it's such a minute thing, I know. It could just be the whole feel of the thing. Either way, it was worth the money to me after the SC.

I installed the Plenum first and noticed the difference and then the Suncoast e-bay Headers and I noticed a greater difference. I am very satisfied with both.

On the orginal subject of the Sports Shifter; I love mine and would order it again in a heartbeat. Same with PCCB.

Buy the ebay headers first for $250.00. I am confident you won't be unhappy with the results.
