First experience with sport shifter

My Carrera S is the first car I have had with a short shifter. I wonder why this is an option. Do some actually prefer the regular shifter? If so, why? If not, is it necesarrily more expensive for Porsche to put in short shifters than regular shifters or is this just another way for them to extract more $ form us.

I don't mind the standard shifter but the short shifter is better. It's all about the $$$.

Why are HIDs optional on non-S cars?

Why doesn't this car have LSD?

How about 3K+ for some metallic paint?!?

All that stuff was standard on my 33K Honda!

Not everyone likes it, and some may prefer to install a different short shift, I guess.

I have the sport shifter in my C2S and it is great. BTW, I thought the 997S has a LSD?

Only ROTW cars had this as a no cost option with the -20mm sport suspension (also not avail on US cars).

My .02 on the subject...the stock shifter in the 997 is marvelous, I think a SSK is a total waste of money. The throws are short enough and I find it quite smooth and precise..

They don't make the short shift standard because then guys like me would put in the "school bus long throw shifter"... Honestly, I drove both standard and short and preferred the standard. I'd rather have the halogens on my S and wish they made it an option. Same with 19" wheels -- why couldn't they leave well enough alone and go with 235/295 on 18x8 and 18x11 wheels and let people pay to upgrade to 19s if they want bling? It was obviously too much to ask for the sunroof to be a paid option, but why not at least certify a non-sunroof car so we could do a sunroof delete? I bet they would have made money on that one.

I can't figure out half of the decisions they made.

BTW, how do you like the suncoast headers? How is the fit and quality? Any noticeable power gains?

Suncoast headers are a good deal - I am happy with them. Quality and fitment are very good. I added them several months after my exhaust and noticed that it was a little louder and the sound quality is improved. Can't say I really noticed any difference in performance. Also, there are some that say that the Suncoast headers are the same as being sold on eBay (for a lot less). Don't know if this is the case but if you are seriously considering going with Suncaost I would call them up and ask about this.

With a C2, I am not surprised you didn't see a difference, the design of stock looks exactly like the x-51. I am very happy with the E-bay headers for my S.

Regular shifter more comfortable to drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

I agree with your assessment. If there was any gain it was so small that I couldn't feel it. Now the plenum was a different story......

So do the suncoast headers not perform as good as the x51 headers? I assume that AWE and fabspeed headers probably give more power than either the suncoast or x51 units...
