He doesn't get the car for free. Technically, you can only write off the amount above the value of the car if purchased as a charity auction item.

Agreed, it's charity and obviously he has more $$$ then he needs and it's going for a good cause. They said the car was worth $92K and the rest would be given to Charity and its a tax deduction. Just think outside the box for a second, how many people will benefit from $902K. I'm glad someone paid that much for it, too bad Leno didn't throw in another $100K of his money (it's not like he's suffering). I hope someone next year gives 2 mil for the first Camaro produced, the money was well spent in my eyes.

The Way I see it its like this:
1) Helping Charity
2) Huge Tax write off
3) You know that car is going to get parked and have very few miles on it, The guy who bought I'm sure can get another one to drive and beat the $#1T out off. Several years From Now (Decades)the car goes back in sale and will be sold for more.
