Help me justify paying $30k+ for a Jeep SRT8
Sounds like a typical Jeep
It sounds sweet and is plain sick in a straight line, not much else is good about it though. You cannot tow, cannot got offroad. I actually think my S4 has better ground clearance. Also, burns gas like there is a hole in the tank and you cannot really haul much because it does not have alot of cargo room.
1. A Pontiac G8 GT with leather seats, heated front seats, and a V8 with room to spare (in terms of making more power) costs $31395. Saving you money for upgrades.
2. A used E46 M3 costs less.
3. Its worse than the Land Rover Range Rover Sport on and off the road.
4. The whole concept is wrong anyway, a sports SUV? Whats next, a bus for the Nuremburgring?
5. Gas mileage. Not that anyone really cares anyway, but everything gets better mileage than a Jeep SRT8. It was one of the top ten gas guzzlers in 2006, in the same league as a Rolls Royce Phantom.
6. Styling. Nothing says "I lost my virginity in a confessional booth" like a car that tries this hard to be masculine.
7. Styling Part Two: Honestly, what attention would you want to attract with this? People will either look at it and say "you know, a car with the same powertrain is faster," "why would anyone want something so ostentatious," or "can't see who is driving that, he's tinted the windows!"
8. Lack of utility. Its a sport utility vehicle, but it lacks off road capability, towing capability is abysmal for this car, and good luck using that back seat...
9. Performance. Pictures of tires off the ground not-withstanding, like hell this would beat a E46 M3 around a track, or the G8 GT, or a Mazda RX-8 for that matter.
10. Back to styling. Nothing says "I love my sister too much" like a Jeep SRT8. Hell it almost makes the Mustang look cosmopolitan.

sorry couldn't help myself..
+1. So many better cars out there for the dough. I guess if you need an SUV and it needs to be fast, than maybe. But I test drove one and a close friend owns one and every time I ride in/drive it, I can't help but think I am in a quick version of a very cheap car (which I am). And you are reminded of this with cheap plastic everywhere and a flimsy interior. It is a looker but it wasn't even as fast as I would have liked it to be, my friends car seemed to stop being insane-ish at around 80-85 than its a slow climb up...
Reasons to buy:
1- you want a very fast DD that can carry 4 people and/or a reasonable amount of stuff in the back (more then any car)
2- you don't want to drive a E55/E63 station wagon
3- you don't mind getting 13MPG
4- you want one of the fastest off-the-line vehicles out there. (In real life, consistent, non-clutch drop launch from 0-40, I really challenge the idea that there is much faster out there of any stock car).
5- it really does look pretty cool from the outside (at least in black)
6- it does have most all of the gadgets of any luxury car
7- it's handling is insanely good for an SUV, and frankly, better then many cars. (No one believes this until they drive one.)
8- it has been 100% reliable for me (except for the known brake squeal problem) (after 1.5 years now at 15k miles - purchased new 2007 model.)
9- It is pretty inexpensive, and, well, you have to have something to park at the airport.
10- you can fold down the rear seats without removing the headrests first (try that in a porsche!)
11- it does have some towing capability. With modification and care, people have gone up to 5,000 lbs towing. (I don't have direct experience with this.) Factory solution is 3,000 lbs and looks pretty bad due to exhaust tip modification.
12- Initial reviews on the jeep about speed bump clearance were pretty stupid. The jeep has pretty much car like clearance. If you have a problem, it will be front approach angle due to the lowered front air dam. I have never had a problem - but since I have other lower cars, I am used to being careful.
(For #4 and #7, you **must** turn off the traction control. TC cuts in way to early. Traction control off really just moves the threshold down to a more reasonable level.)

There is nothing cool looking about any cherokee in any style. If you took away those huge tires it rides on it'll look like the bargain entry level model soccer mom truck.
Hmm, are you saying relative to other SUV's or all vehicles? If SUV, what's your taste? Obviously, relative to all cars, there is better.
We actually have a client with one for sale. 2006 black with Greystone interior and fully loaded, it has 18-19K on it with no problems at all and this guy is meticulous. I think he wants $32K for it, he is wanting a bigger boat and already has a 650 to tow it with. It is a kick in the pants to drive too.
