2011 GT, Hard to beat
....just can say that IRS (which new 'stang still does not have, terminator series cobra possessed), forced induction out of the box with same 6sp/clutch as z-1 vette makes cobra a serious car. mustang GT is nice but will always be a dialed down version.... 03/04 cobra has been the only car out of ford SVT with hand assembled engines - stuffed full of forged intgernals no debate intended.
very nice & generally an under appreciated car....actually 1 of my fav's
but you may be....little wrong re "just the blower " - 03/04 series had forged internals/race heads/performance headers plus full race clutch, engines were hand assembled - enabling forced induction enhancement well beyond out of the box box limits
new GT good value, but after driving one not so soul stirring. sadly missed - my 04 cobra, and if i ever leave the porsche return to american muscle - would be to an 03/04 cobra. hand assembled engines, forged internals, 6 sp trans and what all other mustangs do NOT have, IRS....actually means with minor mods to suspension you can have a real road car.
gone now.....04 cobra vert 1 of approx 5700, whipple blower, MAFia, BAP, magnaflow exhaust, foose 19", pro tune....on a dyno at 575rwHP.....
these cobras now real values - lo milers in lo 20's
pics from last yr

I had a '04, miss that car. but after driving a buddies new '11 I must say the handing is not even close. The new car is tighter and dialed in better. Honestly don't see how you think the '04 handles better then the '11. The numbers stock for stock aren't even close. There is a reason the new cars are compared to M3's.

Really nice mustang....its a GT right....
03/04 terminators (cobra's) were quite different especially with their independent rear suspension.....and weight is perhaps over 300lbs less than new Mustang. But they do need stiffening (any sways and full length sub chassis connectors). out of the box at 400hp with their forged internals/race headers achieving plus 600 rwHP requires only bigger blower, pro tune
properly modified-blazing fast...and actually have a kartlike feel. only thing better imo tt supra.........as i said dearly love my 911, but miss the cobra

Did they switch to the iron block with the Terminators or the 99/01s?
I'll have my gf go check(out of the country) and check but I'm pretty sure there is a sticker/stamp on one of the valve covers with the guy who hand assembled the engine in my 97. I don't know about the 99/01s but I know the 96-98 Cobras all had the aluminum blocks made by Teskid in Italy, which is pretty cool. Good to see they have brought that back and made changes with the wheels/tires/suspension. It certainly paid off as it is only 6.7 seconds behind a stock ZR-1 at VIR.
Ford's engineers had it in their minds that the new aluminum block with its 120-pound weight savings should help the car click off the 4.1-mile Grand West portion of the track about three seconds quicker than the outgoing car. Thing is, the 2011 GT500 managed to lap the track in 2:58.5 – a full nine seconds faster than last year's version.
EDIT: Here's the video.
