Challenger SRT8 392 needs better wheels & wider rubber!

I just ordered a new Challenger SRT8 392 but am becoming frustrated with the lack of aftermarket wheel options and wide tire possibilities. I feel like 20's are unnecessarily large, thinking 18's would be ideal with some wide high performance rubber. My goal is purely to increase performance. Anyone have any experience with options for Challengers? I know the application is the same as the Charger, 300 and Magnum as well if anyone has experience on these vehicles. Thanks!

I have zero useful information for you, but grats on the purchase. I love the way those cars look.

There are plenty of choices available depending on how wide you want to go. I find the SRT8 6.1 Challenger even with limited rear tire width to have great traction considering its tire sizes.

There are plenty of sizes available in 20 x 10 I believe due to its Brembo brakes is why the smaller wheel choices are not available. If you are looking for a drag radial Nitto makes a 305 width NT05R in 20 inch sizes that will fit a 10 inch wide wheel.

I think you need a 20 to clear the brembos, but if not, you could do 18 inch forgestars.....camaro guys do that now on 315s.

challengertalk.com is the site for those cars. Congrats on your purchase...you will love the car. The 392 is beastly and highly underrated HP wise. Mopar Action Magazine tested one and they got it to go 12.29..bone stock.

Thanks for the replies guys! From everything I've been reading on other forums you can go as low as 17's and still clear the brakes fine as long as the wheels have the right specs. Yeah I'm over on Challengertalk daily now but the info is sparce even over there

Did you get one of the initial-realease colors or something else? I love the B5 blue with black that's been available. My dad has a Blk/blk 2009 6-speed SRT Challenger and I'm on my 2nd SRT-8 Charger. He's liking the photos of the 2012 SRT Charger and may end up trading his in for one. Me, I'm not so sure if I like the looks. Glad they aren't messing with the Challenger yet, but they probably will. Post pictures when you get yours and good luck.

Congrats, these cars look great!

I have a similar issue with my G8. Can't go too small in order to clear the arms/rotors/caliper.

What I did to get more rubber was send my wheels off to weldcraft and had them widened to 20x10 from 20x8. Now I can run upto a 305 without any modification to suspension.

The 20" wheel on that car already looks rather small. I think an 18" (let alone 17") would look ridiculously small. It's a big car.

Just my opinion. Good luck.

These are the wheels, with Stop Tech brakes, that I put on my 2008 Challenger SRT-8. They are 20" American Racing wheels - Torq-Thrust M with Anthracite lip.

keep the 20's and get wide tires, 305 or 315 if they fit. You will hook fine.

I have been actively looking for info on the widest possible wheel and tire options for street performance use, preferably in 18 in. size. Over the last week or so, and much research, I have come to the conclusion that I am probably going with the Bolsa wheel in 18x9 front 18x10 rear setup from Huntington Alloys. The accompanying tires will be Nitto NT555 fronts in 265/50/18, and Nitto NT555R rears in 305/45/18.

The orange car has the same wheels/finish I am going with but those pictures are in 20 in. size. The rest of the pictures are of challengers rocking 18's. I don't know how anyone thinks they look bad. A more retro and even mean look I think. Either way all opinion are welcome whatever you think!

Also if anyone can speak to having run Nitto NT555R rear tires on a daily/highway use street car any insight would be appreciated since they are a "near" drag tire. Thanks!
