Getting C7 pressure from oddest place...
... My wife.
I've been talking about getting the new 'Vette for quite some time now (even when it was just rumors and speculation). I kept on talking about how great they were, the supposed technology, power, control, etc... I've always been shot down, with disapproval of a car I'd allegedly not drive, along with the historic problems that old 'Vettes have had. It was hard to shake that logic.
But she saw one recently, and instantly was taken by it. She said,"It is the first Corvette I've ever wanted to drive." So I asked her if we could take a serious look at them, she first responded,"Not sure, don't want to get lured into something that we aren't certain of."
When I was away on business recently, she saw another one. I woke up to an email she sent the night before, with a link to the 'Vette she spec'd out - C7 w/Z51 and 3LT package.
This sparked a discussion about whether or not to wait for the Z06 model. On one side, I'd prefer if she had less HP on a RWD car, but on the other, given the newer technology, that additional power bump may actually be more controllable than the previous iterations. This car would most likely be driven by her most of the time, and double as an occasional track car (she has tracked other cars with me as well).
Is there any speculation of the Z06 yet? I need help.

The Z06/Z07/ETC model will probably debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Since it's winter I'd just wait to see what is coming along and then place your order in the spring whether it's for the Z06 or Z51.
Check out the C7 Vette forums re: awful paint issues on the early cars. Terrible Orange Peel and paint runs. How quality control can release cars in this state is beyond me. Hopefully the 2015 ZR1/Z06 versions will have the paint issues sorted as I am also somewhat interested in getting one IF it comes with a DCT (doubtful) or ZF type 8 speed auto (probable).

Honestly, I hope the Corvette steers clear of DCT. I prefer a 6spd. DCT's are expensive to maintain/replace, and do not have the best mannerisms in traffic/slower speeds. It is sad that the 991 only offers DCT with no true manual option.
The lower maintenance costs, as well as initial cost of entry in comparison to sports cars in the same class, are what makes the Corvette great. The reasons I mentioned above are why I own a C6 Z06 over a GTR or 997 Turbo.
Not ALL the cars have had horrible paint, but there have been a few on the forums. I read one account where GM took care of the situation very well.

We agreed to test drive. She backed off a bit.
She is a somewhat aggressive driver. She loves exploiting the abilities of AWD vehicles.
My fear is that she doesn't have enough experience with a relatively high HP RWD car. This is my dilemma - will she get herself into trouble with relative ease?
She's not overly aggressive, but will give the throttle a push from time to time. In AWD/DCT car like the GT-R, this is uneventful, as the car just lurches as fast as she wants it to. In the previous 'Vettes, this has proven quite eventful. My take - if the suspension/traction improvements are as good as Chevy is saying, then I may be getting one.
We are trying to find one to test drive (not easy for us at the moment), and I'm going to run a few 'test scenarios' with her. She agreed that my concerns are legitimate, and admitted that other cars she had driven may have spoiled her (911, GT-R, etc...).
