Meh, I'm running over 400whp with mere 285's in the rear and I haven't had a problem yet.

Learn how to keep it light from 1st to 3rd gear . . . . you'll be fine lol.

Porsches aren't really my style so I have to say get the Z06. But the thing is, buy the car that will make YOU the happiest. Go test drive both. Imagine yourself driving one for a few years down the road. Which styling do you like more? Can you live without boost? What kind of mods are you thinking of?

IMO, get a Z06 and Twin Turbo her.

I've had 850whp. I know how to drive a RWD car. It's not a question of skill, it's a question of physics. I've had multiple AWD 400hp+ cars and you didn't have to keep it light in 1st to 3rd gear - that's the beauty. My Z06 could easily get smoked by your average SUV 0-40mph if I don't get it perfect, and I don't care who you are, getting launches perfect on the street 100% of the time is not possible.

I'm not taking away from RWD, I have two 500hp RWD cars, I'm just saying that for street driving AWD has it's advantages in high-hp applications.

Perhaps, advanced AWD cars that biased the torque to the rear wheels.

AWD still falls short from a rolling start though.

Own a 996TT and have driven the Z06 up to its limit a few times! I was very impressed. The new Z06 is faster then what my 996TT was when it was stock and that's pretty good for a car that's a fraction of the cost! It handled well and the interior was above average. Though afterward, I got back into my modded 996TT and loved it more then the Z06 but of course its faster.

I personally am considering the next Z07, SS, Blue Devil or whatever they are going to call it if I replace the 996. I feel the design of the vette is great - I owned a 96 and 99 Vette so I have always loved Vettes. I might miss the awd of the Porsche and I still feel like it handles a bit better but if I had only $70k to spend on a car today I would buy the Z06 in a heartbeat!

IMHO get both!

Both are fun to drive...996tt with 2k in mods can be just about as quick.

I love the z06 - but if you looking to win to girls in the city get a TT if you live in the south get a z06!

In my opinion I would go with the z06. I have driven a modded 996 turbo with exhaust tuning and zero clearance turbos. It was very nice but when your budget is in the 70's I would take the brand new car off of the show room floor because you know that it hasn't been beaten and you have the comfort of a warranty. Be very cautious when purchasing a used sports car because they are usually purchased for the thrill otherwise everyone would be rolling around in base carreras.

I have an 07 Z06 and have owned 996TT's and driven GT2's and 997TT's. They are different cars and each have positive attributes. I love the refinement, AWD and interior of the TT. The Z06 is menacing, idle is seductive, power/TQ is more effortless at low RPM's, and so seductive looking in black it is sick. Both are very easy to drive (extremely light clutches) and could be daily drivers imo.

Performance wise, you can't beat the Z06 for the $$; however, there is just something about Turbocharged cars that I will always prefer.

Appearance wise, I know I'll get flamed for saying this, I still feel that Vette owners are kind of a different crowd where as the Porsche Turbo makes a bit of a different statement. In the end, I'd probably go with the P-car.

owned a 2006 Z06 for 10 months/ 6000 miles. Sold it for 1k over what I paid. It was a monster performer both on the street and at the track. The interior, while better than previous iterations, is still cheap looking and feeling. If i had to have another Z06, i would replace the seats immediately. I let it go for a few reasons: it was the least driven car in my garage, i wanted an m5. Ultimately will end up with a 2008 997 TT. The turbo will give me the high performance sports car I desire, with the seats for the kids in the back ( a must).
Best of luck with your decision.
Brian
