People who own or have driven Zo6 and TT...help needed

Hey guys, I am going to be looking for a new car within the next month or so. I am letting my M3 go after 3 years, and am looking into a 996tt and a Zo6. I went to the local dealer today and can get a great deal (I think) on a 2007 Zo6. My question is: How would you compare your Zo6 to your TT as far as fun to drive, daily driving, comfort, exclusivity, etc. I always think a new car is better than a used one, but I want some opinions from those who have experience with both.

Any help would be great!

Thank you in advance.

Best,
Kyle

While I've not driven a TT, I did just drive a GT3 and a Z06 in succession; and I have to say that I'm officially on the fence. I loved everything about the Vette. It fit me well physically, and the sensation of useable, and user friend power and control were certainly there over the GT3; for me...

I'm by no means a track worthy driver IMHO. But I am former law enforcement (been to EVOC), I used to track Ducati's and Aprilia's; so I have an "idea" of being an oh so slightly better than average driver.

I felt more in control of the Vette, and liked the lay out. That said however, the Porsche has the stereotypical cache of a P car. In that category, the P car wins.

If you want the pimp ride, the TT will win it for ya. I'm personally looking hard at the Vette. I like the notion of "American muscle", since if I'm not working, i am in the gym.

A car should be the extention of the personality driving it, perhaps?

No matter what, you've got a winner to choice from bro.

Good for you, and enjoy.

Both good

In addition to a factory Ruf TT and a cage equipped M5 I own an 07 Z06. I have tracked the Z06 and also have run an open road race or two averaging about 150 mph for 130 miles. Z06 is a fun car aand lots of bang for the buck.Clear choice for me over a 996TT.

Having said that,my 07 is about to be for sale b/c I am hunting for an 03 GT2 for my daily driver & occasional track car.

Cheers

R

In my humble opinion, higher end European cars feel 'tighter'. Shut the door of a Vette, then shut the door of a 996 it just feels different, I think better in the Porsche. You guys can talk about the performance aspects better than I so I wont go there.

The only problem for me is, I do not want to step into a new TT as my daily car right now. My daily car budget has to stick around these prices...around 70ish. Also, I've always leased my dailys because I turn them back in within 3 years. I don't know if it'd be better to get into a NEW Zo6, or figure out a way to swing a 996tt since you can't lease used cars (right? if you can, how?), and I don't know if it'd be wise to lease a 5 year old car with 20k miles already for another 3 years or so.

Any ideas? I want to say i'd be happier with the 996tt at this time, and then move to the 997tt in a few years, but I don't want to lay out 70 for a daily car. I'd rather lease my dailys and buy my toys.

Any ideas how to do this, and is it possible?

I traded my '05 996tts on an '07 Z06. I have not missed the 996tt at all. The 996 had a much higher quality interior, but as far as the "fun" factor the Z06 wins hands down in my opinion.

On those 2 cars, you'll get 50-50 opinions. I'll come down to how you feel in it. I would pick the TT over the Z-06 if I was to own it for a long time. For a shorter period the Z-06 is it. The Turbo, you can drive it easy or hard and it feels good, it'll make you proud. The Z06 you have to drive like you stole it to really enjoy it. My 02Cs.

Have you considered instead of dropping 70 on the Z06 pick up a C6 go with a supercharger or twin turbo set up. You will make more power have the same interior and more money still in your pocket.

Was in the same boat. I have driven quite a few 996TTs, both stock and modified. It really is a tough call but for ~$70k the Z06 is very, VERY hard to beat. The Z06 is actually my first American car and I have to say I am an enjoying it a lot. More than I anticipated. The quality is not the same but Porsche interiors are not exactly the best in the world either. My S4, on the other hand, is in a different universe compared to the Z06 - but that's ok. 3100lbs, 427 cubic inches of V8 mucle, and 505hp do a good job of making you overlook the build quality shortcommings. Needless to say I have no regrets on picking it over a 996TT.

Looking at both. Have only driven the TT twice now. I do agree the TT feels slightly better put together but it is not nearly as fun or as fast as the Z. Throw in the Z is new with warranty and drivetrain safety net to a 100K and its a really great package.

The only thing I have against the Porsche is if it ever did have any catastrophic failure (engine/tranny) I would be bumming hard if I got stuck with the bill.

Sure says a lot about the TT that it still get so much consideration though.

I have a Z06 and a 997 turbo. I had a 996 turbo s before so i know both cars....The Z06 isnt as fun as the turbo in my IMO because any little stab at the throttle can get you into trouble at low speeds.....at high speeds the Z06 shines but under 50mph you stab the throttle and you light up the tires. Some people enjoy that but i rather put the pedal down and not have to worry about going sideways. The vette is a fantastic car but if i could only own one i would have to go with the porsche.

That is a very good point 335. I would still take the Z06 over a 996TT, but not over a 997TT. Having a Z06 has not dissuaded me from getting a GTR for exactly that reason (and a few others). With 500hp traction in a RWD platform can just be problematic, unless you are 13 years old and like to do burnouts 24/7. My E55 has the same power but with the extra weight it's a bit easier to put the power down. With the Z06 @ 3100lbs, even with 325 rears just like 335 said, under 50mph on regular streets is "not easy"

I've owned a 996TT and driven a Z06.. it's a very tough choice..
997TT is a different story though
