OEM Nav/ PCM vs Kenwood or Pioneer

Hey guys I know this may have been covered in previous forums but I need a definitive answer which I have yet to find....What exactly is the problem with replacing the PCM and what control functions will I lose? If all I lose is the stopwatch/ timer functions, then it seems like I get a lot more bang for the buck with Kenwood 7100 or Pioneer Z3. Both of these offer integrated iPod, Satellite, Bluetooth, DVD's, Garmin nav (all in one piece) and it actually works unlike a lot of the nav-tv, tooki stuff I'm seeing on the forums. I don't really care about keeping the "OEM look", but the Kenwood with its matte finish may actually look like it matches the interior but I need to see some real pics first. I know a lot of guys have replaced their 996's OEM with Pioneer or Kenwood but I'd like to hear if any 997 owners with PCM have done so and how they like it....Thanks much!!!!

You'll always lose all the Main settings and individual key settings.

Not an inclusive list, but you would lose the following:

1. Information in central cluster (nav info, radio info, etc.)
2. Ability to control PCM with steering wheel controls (radio, volume, CD track, etc.)
3. Climate control settings
4. Interior lighting control settings
5. Trip computer
6. Telephone module (if present)

I think it leaves the car with a lot of possible annoyances.

when going aftermarket on something like that, possible annoyances are bound to follow in the near future considering the fact that the nav system does a lot more then it appears to be doing. If you are going aftermarket anyways go with alpine, IMO the best user friendly interface. If interested i can get you a Alpine IVAW205 with a nav module cheap from one of my dads shops, even if it be any other brand.
