Dallas driving routes?
Dallas driving routes?
Does anyone here have some good hillside or back country driving roads out of Dallas? ... I want to start around 7am on a Sunday and be back home by 4pm ...
Thanks.
Thanks.
I was hoping you'd get some responses to your question because I'd like to know of some too. One of the downfalls of having fun cars in Dallas.
There is a run that starts in SE Oklahoma and goes into the western edge of Arkansas. It can be done in a day, but it's more like a 14 hour day.
It's so good that it has a name - the Tali-Mena Run. It's a 53 mile, mountain-top run and goes from Talihina, OK to Mena, AR by way of SR 1 which also goes by the name of Talimena Scenic Drive. That should tell you something.
I have never made the run but know people that have made it for years. They say it's incredible - the roads, curves, views, everything. Getting there would include some boredom (interstate) but once you pull off the interstate, the highways going to Talihina are nice as well. I hear the reward is well worth the effort in getting there.

BBS,
I'd love for us to take my LP640 and either one of your cars for a spirited drive ... I found a viking biker crew forum that does some Texas hill country runs and he replied to my email with a route ... But it starts close to Austin so it would be a two hour drive just to start.
From my EMAIL.
don't know how long it will take u to get to Kerrville but this is a good start
kerrville on 16 south to medina. be carefull and pay attention thru the canyon. 2 or 3 180 degree turns.
at medina right on 337, first of 3 sisters. 337 to the T right for about a mile then left at the little store. still on 337.
there is a little construction a couple miles up the road but nothing to bad, we went thru it this weekend on our bikes.
337 thru leakey to 55 at camp wood. right
55 to barksdale and 335 right.
335 is second of 3 sisters and to me the best road.
335 to 41 right. 41 is boring and about 10 miles to 336 right. keep and eye for it or u will miss it. 336 right.
336 is fun too but mayb e a dozen cattle guards.
336 to 83 just north of leakey left
83 up to 39 right
39 into hunt to 1340 if u have time. left to visit stonehenge II about 5 miles donw the road.
turn around and go back to 39 and continue north.
39 turns into 27 going back into kerrville
From the start at kerville to medina, 3 sisters and back to kerville is about 300 miles or so. should take u say hit kerrville at 10am would take u till say 3pm or so.
just a rough estimate tho.
look for 3 sisters on the internet. stonehenge 2. frio canyon motorcycle stop etc.
let me know if u want more info.

I've been on Hill Country drives, as well as the Mena, AR area drive with the local BMW Z-car club. I would say make a weekend of either if at all possible. There are the most wonderful roads up the western side of Arkansas. Hiway 23 (the pig trail) from I-40 north to Fayetteville is NOT to be missed.
Actually, go to the Mena area one night, then up to Eureka Springs the next. You'll be hooked...

Sending you a pm.

Just north of Collin County has some really nice roads. The Ferrari club takes a similar route and we also did a extended version of the route during the rally. Send me a PM I will look for the map.

If you head south on 377 to Granbury you can take Hwy 4 east and have a nice drive. Also if you take 30 east to Greenville hop on 512 to Wolfe City. When you get there, ask the locals where The Rib BBQ is...thats another nice drive and damn good bbq
Here are some I found while checking the weather today
