Zonda R sets 6:47 Nurburgring time...

A Pagani Zonda R has this morning set a new Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record, completing the 13-mile circuit in 6mins 47secs. The previous record for a 'road-based car' was 6mins 58secs recently set in April by the Ferrari 599XX.
With just fifteen examples of the 1.5 million-euro track car being built, the Zonda R is one of the most exclusive Italian sportscars ever. It weighs 1070kg, and is powered by a 6.0L V12 producing 740bhp and 524lb ft of torque. That's enough to propel it to 62mph in less than 2.7secs and on to 218mph.
Wow...
What exactly constitutes a "road-based car"? There's a lot of cars out there you can modify that are still "road-based" that will run ridiculous times. Obviously that car is really a race car, not a street car by any means.
exactly and remember Stefan Bellof run the Ring already in 6:11,13
in 1983 on his Porsche 956:

Yep, nobody was faster than Bellof and his 956 Qualifying lap but he paid the price for being that damned fast shortly after that, RIP.
R.I.P Steffan .....and this is correct it is the fastest time for a road based car. There is no such thing as a " Ring " record however! The 599 XX had just broken the previous fastest time. It easy to explain a road based car is something like a Ferrari 430 Challenge, 599 XX or ACR-X Viper or GT3 RSR. Basically a race car based on a street car chassis, but with modifications that no longer make it road legal. As such the Zonda R is a road based car.
The 956 not so much so, that is a race car. Something else to consider it was only faster than the SR8 LM by a second or so. And that is in its home market a production car that is road legal.
