Clutch Thrust bearing.

I have a lightweight flywheel and stronger clutch plate kit fitted around 10 to 15k miles ago.

1. The thrust bearing has failed, both lips or tabs that the clutch fork pulls on, have broken off.

2. My concern is whether this thrust bearing is up to the job, it might be a badly cast part or should I up spec it to the strongest thrust bearing available (considering GT3 road/Cup car components).

3. I don't want to fit the same part if it is likely to fail again.

Any help or info would be great!

There's a thread in Rennlist about this same issue...997 GT3's have had similar problems. It may have something to do either with stronger clutch assy's than std GT3 or the way the clutch is used. There most of breakdowns have been on cars that have been extensively tracked.

Unfortunately there's just one part number for all road cars from the beginning of times (ie LWFW has been used). About Cup car parts...I do have a PDF document of 996 Cup's parts but it's in another computer...
997 Cups apparently use hydraulic release bearing, but that requires also different clutch assy, one that releases by pushing, not pulling like ours. Tilton has them.

Thanks Pete!!

Thing is I have never tracked my car but I do use it properly if you know what I mean

It would be nice to find a solution without going to a tripple carbon clutch!

I will take a look on rennlist.

I was also wondering what they use in the GT2 RS.

You're welcome! And GT2RS's pressure bearing is again the very same 944 116 080 01.
