Hi,
I'm putting in a new Alpine stereo and decided to put a USB / iPod connecting where the power outlets is in the centre console. I've got the console off but for the life of me I can't get the power outlet off! I have the shop manual and it says press release and pull out. There is no release anywhere that I can see????
Anybody done this??

Ok,
35 minutes to remove the console, 45 to remove the power plug....
Turns out I got fed up and pushed hard and it popped right out. Go figure...

 

I was going to place mine in the ashtray compartment. The only drilling would be in ashtray which is removable and you could likely place a grommet in place if you every decided to take out the unit.

 

I'm going to do a write up about this when I'm done. Basically I bought a USB /aux in panel mount connector. It looked to be the same size as the power plugs so I tried it on the power plug on the right foot well. Perfect fit. So I removed the console and finally got the power plug out. Again a perfect fit except that the inside is curved so the nut that would hold it in place can't be used. Nothing some hot glue can't fix.
So it's in.
I'll do a write up with pics and also by remote rear camera too. In a few days.
