997tt RWD conversion how-to?

Hi,

I've searched around looking for a description of how remove the driveshaft, etc. for RWD conversion but haven't found anything. I thought I saw a how-to with pics a while back but nothing came up. Does anyone have any info on this process? I looked at the shop manual but it is vague on exactly how to physically disconnect the front driveshaft.

Thanks,
Franc

The prop shaft only requires you to remove the center mount to pull it out. (After you remove the underneath a panels). You should also remove the front axles and install stub shafts into the hubs, the final step is to remove fuse C10 to fix the abs issues and you're set.

Thanks for the response, two more questions if you don't mind!

1. Do you know where to source the stub shafts? I Googled them and no luck. I may end up getting a used set of front axles and take them apart to make my own.

2. What ABS issue? It's interesting that some ppl have no issues with PASM, ABS, etc. and others do? My car is a 2008 997tt 6MT cab if it makes a difference.

Thanks again,
Franc

I'm not sure where to source axles other than Porsche

I drove my 2008 6 speed cab around town in rwd after removing fuse C10, I didn't try with the fuse in, guess you can try both ways to see. I had heard the brakes will come on hard with the fuse in but didn't test it

I would if there were a convertible GT2 and if I could mount my daughter's car seat in the back. I guess I could install some anchors in the empty space where the back seat would be but chopping off the top would be ridiculously expensive and guaranteed to leak. I'd rather take the $30k I saved buying my TT cab instead of a GT2 and make myself a poor man's GT2 with the RWD conversion. Granted, I wouldn't get the benefit of the suspension upgrades, etc, etc but I am being realistic. This is my daily driver and it handles well enough for what I need. I have TPC's excellent DSC suspension controller so things are pretty good over here. I'd just like a little more excitement and I think the RWD conversion would fit the bill. I also have a TPC turbo'd Boxster S that I usually drive with the PASM off and love it, so I'm trying to get the same grin factor in my daily driver.

Cheers,
Franc

You a re better off doing what you are doing ,because as a daily driver its a bit to stiff
Best of luck .I look forward to following your progress ! Post with some pics please
My best regards,Ron
