Car has surging idle and won't stay running, possible intercooler pipe popped off..?
So a weird thing happened today..here is the backstory:
I had a coolant leak from both turbos (coolant line o rings failed) since last year. Today was the repair day. Everything went well. It involved removing the rear bumper, both intercoolers, the oil tanks under the turbos (partially) and then the coolant lines the feed into the center of the turbo between the hot and cold side are accessed.
The car ran fine at first..great actually until..I did a hard second gear pull. Car pulled like it should, then when I shifted to 3rd, I heard a loud woosh of air from the back like I had a blow-off valve. Thought "that was weird" and continued to pull through 3rd. 3rd suddenly felt down on power, and then I drove about another 1/4 mile normally before coming to a stop sign. When I stopped, the idle surged, and nearly died. Bounced up and down between nearly stalling and 2k RPMs a few times, then the car died. Started it, and same thing immediately. Car would not stay running. I basically limped/coasted off to the side of the road, and tried to restart it 5 or 6 times. Same thing. I wasn't far from home, so my only recourse was to start it, rev the hell out of the engine to keep it from dying, and then drive home. Once I got on the road and got moving, I basically drove home making sure not to let the revs drop and not stop. I got in my driveway, and stopped, and the car idled normal? Car now starts and idles fine, though I haven't taken it back out to see how it is on power.
So I'm thinking the only thing this could be is an intercooler pipe popped off (most likely the one up top that goes to the air box?) Any ideas? Im hoping I didn't do any damage during this repair, but I can't honestly imagine what I couldve done wrong.

Sounds like the IC connector popped off either on the top or bottom quick connector. They can be a little sneaky and act like they are properly engaged, but are not. The reason the car won’t idle well has to do with the maf sensors not metering the idle air correctly. You’ll have to more than likely pull the rear end off the car to fix it, but that’s 30 minutes. I doubt you damaged anything.
