996 vs 997 turbo intake camshaft

A question: Is there difference in intake camshafts between 996 and 997, namely in that "propeller", that delivers cam's position to hall sensor?

I believe the cam profiles are the same but the 997 variocam has more range than the 996.

997 turbo intake camshaft:

996 turbo intake camshaft:

As you can see, the "rotor" for cam position sensor is totally different. Oh well, most likely it's the same on both cams, just 180 degress rotated. What' even more different is solenoid's control. 996 turbo has adjustment range of 0-30 deg, on/off style. 997 turbo has a range of 0-40 deg, caonstantly variable, which most likely means PWM controlled solenoid. Damn, I wish I'd know this earlier than today.

Now the question is it possible to run 997 turbo's engne (ie these cam's control) with 996 turbo's Motronic? Any good advice is valuable! Engine runs (idles), but only with cam position sensors disconnected. Thus no idea whatsoever if cams are advanced or not. And will they stay in that position or not. Or is it possible to run them on/off style...

Could someone do me a small favour, a Durametric log containing RPM and Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 1 & 2, while cranking about 5 seconds without fuel, so no start?! (Mezger engined 997 turbo...)

TIA!
