Cayenne Transfer Cases - Still worth taking the plunge?

Hi everyone!

Getting last minute doubts. I found a 2013 Cayenne that I'm about to purchase. Was really excited to find it. Only trouble I see is the Transfer case issues on these. The car won't have a warranty and I've owned a few porsches in the past (have two currently) so I've never needed an aftermarket one (don't like them).

The Cayenne I'm looking at it looks like the Transfer case has just been replaced. Still though $5,000 for a transfer case every 20k miles is a bit too much (looking at the sticky thread). Especially as I was planning on making this Cayenne an Overlander. I can't tell if the problem is rampant and it's only a matter of time for the next failure or if it's probably going to be okay for a long while. What do you think? Please don't tell me I have to buy a toyota :/.

Yes

We just bought a 2014, also without warranty. I think as long as the TC gets viewed as a maintenance item similar to an oil change as well as getting the updated TC vent tube; I think you'll be good! The design is poor on the vent tube allowing water to be mixed with less than a quart of very unique TC fluid so just keep it changed and you'll be good. There, that's my 2 cents.

If you got a new TC i wouldn't worry about it. Change the TC fluid every oil change and it shouldn't be a problem.

One more thing that's important to add is if you reuse the drain and fill bolts on the TC, make certain to use some pipe thread or pipe sealant but be very careful to not over-torque the bolts, they will crack the housing if they go in too far! If you use the pipe sealant (liquid) make sure to adjust the torque value down as it will require less torque to get the required tightness on those bolts. Torque values that each mfg use are on dry use, drop the torque down a bit if using a pipe sealant.
