Cayenne Manual Transmission experince

Hi ! A very long time BMW owner recently bought a V6 Cayenne with Manual 6 speed transmission. I have been driving manuals all my life and predominately BMWs so I am used to the BMW gearbox fill.
Cayenne is totally differently - so far I am struggling to drive it smoothly in 1st/2nd/Reverse. Still getting used to the clutch a bit - but the shifter action is something I wanted to inquire. There is no grind -but the action is quite notchy and accompanied with audible mechanical "clunking". My prior cars (BMWs) had some of it - but overall mechanical shifting noise was very much muted.
I took it by the dealer and had a tech drive it - said clutch is good and its normal.

So the question to the forum - any other similar experiences? Would a fluid change significantly help? Or its just different and I will get used to it?

Hello Schernov.

If you haven't done so already, i would suggest the fluid change. I have a 2011 Cayenne 6sp manual and I don't have any of the "clunking" sounds when shifting gears. It's usually buttery smooth through all 6 gears for me.

Hope this helps!

so my clunking was actually due to broken shift ****/boot retaining clips.... so that got replaced. And I changed the fluid. All good now.

Manual transmission owners...

Does the transfer case issue affect your vehicles, or did Porsche use a different transfer case for manual transmission Cayennes?

Porsche extended the warranty on all transfer cases including those with Manual Trans. One in my car was replaced at 40k miles for example under basic warranty.
