17 Vantage armrest, meet 07 DB9

While my DB9 was down for some maintenance, I decided to tackle the armrest where the internal foam had completely collapsed. One option I considered was to retrofit the larger storage box in place of the armrest, but I wasn't too keen on making that big of a change to the interior. Last year I found a 2017 vantage armrest that kept the low profile the 07 DB9 has and stashed it away for a future project. The storage area has a 12V charging port, a module with a pair of USB ports, and a spot for a 3.5mm aux input jack which was unfortunately missing.

At first glance the two armrests are completely different. I expected to have to do some modifications.

Check this out. The primary structure is nearly identical. For some reason, Aston even attaches the exact identical rear mounting tab even though it serves no purpose.

The rib just above the white sticker is the cut-line for the plastic form. I started marking up the leather with a chalk pen.

Here's the top side with the chalk marks for the cut line. It's about to get real...

And it's cut... The adhesive for the foam is incredibly well attached. This part took some time with an exacto knife.

Another chalk line where the plastic will be cut. I wanted to free the leather and foam for the plastic cutting to prevent damaging the leather.

Plastic is cut here. I very slightly nicked the leather as can be seen below. It's on the bottom and will be hidden under the rear seat center tunnel.

First test fit. I haven't wrapped the free leather and glued it yet. That will come at a later date.

And here it is fully installed. Definitely not a good match for the Ferrari Beige interior. I plan to paint it to match with ColourLock.

It's almost a perfect match for the rosewood waterfall and door cappings so it's not completely out of place.

Great job, I'd keep the color, as you say it matches well the ski slope and the door inserts.
