refinishing options for early model vantage/db9 radio panel
wonder if anyone has any input or comments on the following options for refinishing the early model vantage/db9 radio console panel. I understand upgrading it to the later version is not really possible and wanted to update it by repainting it gloss black or something...but not sure what could be done about the heater control lettering (which is backlit).
I did some searching and found the following...
Option #1 - Wrap
somebody ended up wrapping it and was able to preserve the lettering, no idea how?
it wouldn't surprise me if decals could be made from some high quality proportional pictures taken with nothing but a smartphone. i'd check the web for such a vendor. apply then clear coat over them maybe. just a guess on my part.
IMO, it would look cleaner without them and only the graphics on the dial in the middle really serves a purpose.
decided to go the wrap route with forged CF wrap. Don't really care about the heater control lettering being covered up as noted previously that info is displayed on the ICM screen. Also a wrap is not permanent so can revert if needed. Think it will be a nice contrast to the OEM piano black ski slope and I like the matte finish. Will post pics once completed
TVR used to sell their cars without any graphics for the buttons and dials. Peter Wheeler who owned the company said that if someone was intelligent enough to buy a TVR, they would be intelligent enough to remember what the buttons do.
