Unhappy V8V advice please! Unhappy with the drive- flywheel?

4.3L V8V 6-speed owners- who has lightened their flywheel?

I find the OEM setup undrivable in spirited windy roads. I have a remapped ECU but the stock flywheel is so heavy it makes blipping the revs impossible to do quickly.

Those who have lightened the flywheel how much difference have you noticed and was it worth it?

I love the vantage - it's beautiful- but seriously considering just getting a 911 cos it just doesn't drive the way I want it to.

We have some members who have upgraded to a twin plate clutch and a lightened flywheel. I am sure some can answer your question. IMHO the Vantage and 911 are different vehicles aimed at different audiences, so they provide different driving experiences.

I have switched to a twin plate clutch and flywheel on my 2009 4.7L Vantage and could not believe how light the clutch was when I first got into the car, I thought it was not even connected to the pedal... my foot went right to the floor without any resistance but in fact it was connected and soo easy to modulate compare to the original setup. I love it, but I have to mention that it has a little chatter which is a down side of twin plate clutch but not bad enough to annoy me. Furthermore, you have to tune the car to have your RPM raised by 100-200 as the inertia of the flywheel is so much lighter. All in all no regrets from me and I have been driving it for about 5 yrs now with he twin plate

I have the twin plate clutch set up and it is still hard rev the engine but not as bad as the single plate clutch. The 911 is a better car but not as good looking as the AMV. Every cars and coffee I go to everyone looks at mine Vantage. The Porsche get looks but not like my Vantage. Porsches are everywhere but Aston Martins are not.

Porsche builds more vehicles in a month than Aston built Vantages in 10 years...

Oh yeah no doubt about it - AM is an event to drive. But I'm finding I'm just not enjoying driving it as much as I wish I did. So you're saying even with the lightened flywheel the throttle isn't as responsive as it could be to blip the revs in gear changes etc?

I don't have an issue with blipping the throttle with gear changes. You are blipping the throttle on downshifts only, right?

Yes, the blip for the down shift is very hard. I even changed the gas peddle so it is closer to the brake peddle. That does not help at all.

Are you having a problem because the pedals are not in an ideal position for you to heel and toe on a downshift?

Yes that is actually one of the big reasons for me with the blip on the down shift while braking. I race FF1600 for 10 years so I am very use to that.

Yeah same. I got custom pedals so I can help and toe now on the Vantage but on downshifts you have to be on the accelerator for half a second to bring the revs up.

Even without using the brake and just downshifting I FLOOR before the revs start to rise

I've gotten a custom tune to try to get rid of all the factory limitations and add some mid-low end power, raised the rev limiter a bit.

I've never driven a car with a slower response when trying to blip the throttle.

Who tuned the vehicle for you?
