Question '13 DB9 Driver's Seat Won't Move Forward/Down

Hey folks,

I recently picked up a '13 DB9 with 14k miles. The only flaw is that the driver seat will not move forward or backward, and it will not move down. It still moves up, and the backrest goes forward and backward fine.

The previous owner changed the battery with a new one, and he claims that the seat was fully operational before the battery change. He seems a trustworthy fellow, but I have no way of verifying it worked before.

I tried the "calibration mode" steps this morning of pushing the buttons in a particular order, however since the seat doesn't actually move forward or down, i'm not sure if that's doing anything.

I looked for a battery disconnect switch in the trunk and didn't see one - I read there is a yellow button under the passenger seat bottom, but that it may only be for early cars...

The passenger seat moves in all directions normally.

I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on what to check/try. The seat is a couple inches too far back for comfort, or I wouldn't even worry about it!

First thing I'd do is check fuses. Second is relays. Can you hear a click for a relay or any interaction when you push the switches? If the fuse is blown, then you also have a short to deal with.

If it still moves up you could try to continue moving it up until it hits the stop. That may unlock the other directions. I seem to recall my seat getting stuck in a similar state a while back after the battery was out for an extended period of time.

I have not done this but...I do know that if you disconnect the cable drive of the motor you can attach it to an electric drill to move the mechanism to where you need the seat until such time as you can properly repair the electrical items. Of course you have to do each of the motors separately. In a pinch, its a solution until you can fix the rest so that you can at least drive the Aston.

I see two fuses tied to potential driver seat movement, I will pull them and check them (and perhaps cutting power triggers a reset or something). I DO NOT hear a click when trying to move the seat forward/backward. So, relay is not actuating.

Fuse F85 – 30 Amp – Driver seat power and switch pack
Fuse F86 – 5 Amp – Start button, Driver and passenger seats

Unfortunately I did this yesterday and no avail.

I was trying to research this as a backup, good to know it can be done. I understand you can remove the motor cover and spin it by hand too - though I'm not sure which motor controls the up/down of the seat base, i'd love to lower it a bit too.

You *may* be able to jump 12v to the motor too, with alligator clips to activate it that way. It's been done. I have not done it, generally I consider electricity the Devil's energy and don't mess with it too much. I fry things far too easily.

Folks, I was able to resolve this today!

to make a long story short, I had to fully reset the car by disconnecting the battery and then reconfigure the windows and seats again.

I followed the normal seat configuration steps and that didn’t do it, so I just kept pressing and holding the seat motion switches in different directions, and after a couple minutes the “down” started working, followed shortly by forward/backward.

It seems like the seat got stuck somewhere around configuration mode where it couldn’t “set.”

all good now!

exduluthian is infamous around these parts
Congrats!

And thanks for the follow-up. I hope it never becomes necessary, but it’s nice to have another arrow in the quiver.
