Sold AM Vantage after 3 months
I don't think it was ever confirmed, but I really have trouble seeing why this car would need such a special oil. It makes sense on high revving engines but not here...I'm still trying to find out for sure.
I was thinking the same thing, its basically a big Ford V8 so why the special brew versus a high revving 10w60 that works in the BMW S54.
4.0 liter in M3 = 8000rpm 4.7 liter in V8V = 7000rpm.....4.7 liters is not really a "big" engine certainly as far as V8's go and 7000 is pretty high rpm for that displacement. Still....I want to know does the TWS 10w-60 for the M3 have the same cert.# and specs as the 10w-60 for the Aston (edge sport)?

The e92 M3 with the 4.0L V8 redlines at 8400 rpm. The e46 had a 3.2L I-6 that redlined at 8000 rpm...that's the original engine that used the 10w60. The rationale there was that it was an undersquare engine with very high piston speeds especially at the top of the rpm range...a higher weight oil was felt to be necessary to stay on moving parts at high speed...not really a problem with the 4.3L V8 in the Vantage which is oversquare but maybe a bit more so in the 4.7L, as they increased stroke more than bore to get a more square setup.
