Resolution

Let's just say, in my case, AM resolved the Vantage "the right way", without undue legal debates. I'm pleased and they have a test car to tear apart to try and see why these cars are acting as they do.
My new, replacement DBS is doing fairly well, but one "ADS off" fault message has already shown up, for unknown reasons. I hope it was just a fluke!

My dealer is currently looking at the "engine cutout" issue and asked me for VIN's of other V8 Vantage owners that have the same problem to find out, if certain ranges of cars are affected.

So please anyone with the typical cutout problem (not the engine dying completely), please send me a PM me with your VIN.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have experienced the same problem with the engine stall when rpm is low. (09' V8 4.7 sportshift). However, AM has managed to fix it in 2 weeks and they claimed it the clutch problem.

I was just going to say this is what it sounds like to me, albiet I am no mechanic. My girlfriends car just did the same thing, sporadic complete shut offs (no seizing, just shut off) when stopping, and it turned out to be wires in the wire harness connected to the IAC (and becuase the wires went bad, so did the IAC).

When you are stopping and it is stalling out, try giving it gas while breaking. Mind you, just a very little gas to keep the car ideling while pressing harder on the breaks. If that is working fine while you are stopped, then you let off the gas to idle and it doesn't, it sounds like something to do with idle air control valve or wires in the wire harness.

BTW, my girlfriend's car is a pontiac sunfire, not an aston martin, so who knows how this stuff, besides the symptoms, translates .

wow, I really wanted a 09 vantage too. Until they get this fixed, I'm going to have to think twice unless they do a major recall.

Keep in mind this is likely an isolated problem. Most people/enthusiasts post on boards their issues, etc. Few post how their cars are wonderful and problem free. Human nature.

Understood, but if this is a problem on a few of the 09 cars, then its still a big deal.

With mine it stalled 3 times in 6 months (in other words, rare but annoying). After a software update its been perfect for 9 months. I drive it just about every day.

I really wouldn't let it stop you.

So a software update solves the issue? Is this a known issue on the 09's only or all of the V8 Vantages?

My car has been doing the same thing. After spirited driving or just regular driving on an interstate it will stall. It has happened several times. One time I was coming down a mountain near the Smokies when it did it. I watched my tach another time when it did it... it is almost as if the idle is too low. This stalling happens when I am at a stop or when I have the clutch engaged. Liek every one else the dealer had no reads come off the computer.

It solved my issue and I was told the update is a fix for this kind of problem. However, I suspect that everyone that has had a stalling problem didn't have the same issue as I did. But what % was fixed with the update, I don't know. Stalling can be caused by a whole bunch of different reasons.

The total number of people with unresolved stalling issues seems pretty low, but it isn't zero. I don't think its something that is pervasive, however, so when looking at the car just treat it as one of any number of things that could be wrong with a car that you have to evaluate. You don't want a car with unresolved stalling problems just like you wouldn't want a car with unresolved electrical problems.

I have my DBS for six months, in July when it was 37 degrees (98.6 fahrenheit), this issue of stalling happened to me couple of times in the same day.. mine is manual as well..

I reported it to AM, they picked up the car, claimed that they fixed the issue and returned it back to me in one day.. so far didn't have the issue happen, but then again, the temperature never went up that high ever since the issue happened to me..

I'm crossing my fingers

it's not a Vantage issue, DBS is also having this problem, to me it was more embarrassing than dangerous, people laughing thinking that I have a car that I don't know how to drive..

Mine was the sport shift and wasn't temperature dependent. Perhaps the stalling with the manuals really are the drivers' fault. Like most of Toyota's brake problems.

09 Vantage cutting off/stalling

Well my stalling went away for awhile BUT came back this weekend. It is a scary situation as you dont realize you've lost power until you turn the wheel...and people behind you are about to hit you from behind. This seems to be happening to Vantages. I am getting with the Aston rep. I expect a fix. Annoying little things in cars can expected, hazardous things like sudden stalling are UNACCEPTABLE. Anybody else out there running into this again these days?? I had a lawyer friend tell me what I should do....but I love my car and want Aston to fix it before I mess with that...

That's weird...it has never happened to me. Is the car going into limp mode? Throwing codes?
