Rusty EGR valve on vantage

So I just purchased a V8V and in the engine compartment is a valve that is all rusty. I have been told by AM that it is common for it to be rusty. IT's the EGR valve. If you are looking at the engine its towards the front top left corner of the block. Has about 3 pipes going into it. Any of you have it rusty? I am thinking about sand blasting and powder coating with heat resistant paint. Should I buy a new one and powder coat that instead? Why didn't it come treated already if AM states it gets rusty most of the time.

Mine is rusty too .... 2007 V8V w/ 12k miles ... thought about painting it also. I've had parts like this rust over short periods of time (2-3 yrs) on other cars ... their opinion was this was normal wear so I ended up taking care of it myself (paint - and often my paint wore off too !).

yeah they want replacement $170 plus $100 labor. I think that I am going to take it out, take it to a powder coater and they will apply ceramic paint, like if it was exhaust. That will prevent the rusting and will handle the heat.

Acabrera,
Sorry for going off topic but I just noticed your 32k miles and I was wondering whether you are still on your original clutch?

No biggie, So clearly the part being rusty is not an issue but cosmetically it just looks so off.

biggreen, what is the tape for? I'm probably going to get this done soon. Found a good powder coater in my area and quoted me $60 for the cleaning and the ceramic coat. I'll probably go matte black with the piece to contrast with the engine block.

Painted mine this weekend w/black Rustoleum high temp paint (1000 deg F) and a very small brush - total of $15 from Home Depot. We'll see how long it lasts. Looks like new - you would really have to look close to see it was repainted.

Did you remove the rust before painting?

Actually conducting an experiment w/ this paint - so no not this time. If doesn't work I'll go the "proper" route - sanding , prep - next time.

Just fine - but I think it needs more time to really tell if a success. Nice thing is it looks great cosmetically (like new) and will only take about 10 min if retouch required ....

Micheal, did you remove the valve or paint in place with some tape or other way of protecting the surroundings?
