Rear hatch (trunk) lid

Heading to the track in the am and have heard that removing the rear hatch cover will increase the wonderful sound of the V8V.

Anyone know how to remove the rear hatch cover?

Thanks

If you look at it you'll figure it out. You can always open that funny little book in the glove box too.

hahaha, I finally figured it out. Would be lying if I told you it took me less than 15 minutes to figure out!! British engineering....so simple once you figure it out!

So, curiosity got the best of me and I thought I would check it out. Since there was difficulty from others figuring it out and then they felt silly afterwards I figured I would approach it from a simplicity standpoint. Got to looking and figured that with the deep thought AM normally puts into everything they do, the red pull tab should mean something. Pulled it and viola it was undone. I'm amazed by the way they engineered such a simple piece. Another work of art by AM.

So, for the comment about the sound with the piece removed. I drove it around with it removed and wow, it's a very noticable difference in the sound. I do have an aftermarket exhaust, but I imagine the difference would be there with stock as well. I'm going to keep my cover off. I have tinted windows anyway so it doesn't make a differece from a privacy standpoint.

Plus, I bet I saved 7 lbs. Thought the car felt a little lighter.

It took until the last post to figure out what the heck you guys where doing . . . taking off the complete tailgate?? . . . I'll like huh. Must be too much sun & drinking from the F1 weekend.

I've taken mine off a few times to stick my bike in there, but never for spirited driving, will have to give it a go.

Are you guys referring to the black carpeted piece just below the window that is supported by strings via the hatch towards the rear of the car? It hides the contents in the trunk? Correct?

OMG, now I'm confused as to what Deto was referring to. I'm certainly talking about removing the carpet divider. But rereading the post, I think Deto was talking about removing the carpet piece as well because he said "rear hatch cover" vs rear hatch. His followup also made it sound like he discovered it was simple once he figured it out.

However, removing the hatch itself....now that would save some weight.

Just went and looked at my car . . . the Carpeted Cover is held in by 6 bolts that can be undone by a Allen key (looks like 4mm)

Here are two snaps:

Hey Druid-yep, I was referring to the carpeted rear hatch "cover" that is supported by the strings and hides the rear hatch contents. Felt silly that it was just the pull

Anyways, I have the Quicksilver SS exhaust but with the cover removed it sounds even better (at the track with a helmet on). I also am leaving it out as I have dark tints.

BTW, track day was incredible with this car. The sport supension is great on this car and always manages to suprise me on the track. I was catching an F430 lap over lap (ok he was not the best driver), but it felt good anyways. I also came within inches of hitting a Lotus that spun out in front of me!!

Gekko-
I was at the Austin Formula One party with the Ferrari and AM clubs following our track day watching the Canadian F1. There was a lot of interest at the party with the news interviews and all as Austin will be hosting F1 in the US!!
