RGC, I did import my AM myself and had no issues (other then a bad shipping company). The US dealer did my DRL's and gave me a printout that showed "no recall's". Other then that it was really easy. Try and find one close to you so shipping is cheaper. I had another member of this board go and test drive my Vantage prior to me buying it and I also got a PPI. good luck!!
Thanks Rhyno, if you dont mind, I may PM you some questions before I go ahead and purchase (not in a rush as I'm in the midst of building a house, etc......so would likely be late spring or summer).....

I found this in my older notes, (back in 07 I was looking at importing a car to Canada from the US)
Setting a USA Aston for daytime running lights requires the AMDS (Aston Martin Diagnostic Systems)
tool your dealer connects to your car and an activation key they must get (purchase?) from Aston Martin
based on your car's VIN number.

Once that's done, as soon as you turn the ignition key, even before you hit the Start Button, the car will
light up exactly as if the lights **** was turned all the way to the right, regardless of its current position.

This means that:

I position only means something if the car is parked and the key is NOT turned in the ignition. You will
then get the parking / walk home lights (beautiful LEDs in the front and low red in the back).

II position is only different from 0 position when driving when you hit the high-beams. In 0 position, the
high beams will not stick, whereas they will in II position.

When I spoke to a few US dealers, they said they would do this for no-charge, if I purchased the car from them.

So the DRLs are just the headlights? I'd normally expect DRLs to be a set of ultrabright LEDs, or is that just a European thing?

Is there a way to set it up so the DRL's are just the LED's? I don't live in Canada, but I just think it would look cool, especially around dusk

Just tagging on to this thread as I'm seriously looking at getting a 2002 DB7 Vantage V12 Coupe from a US vendor (will post details of that separately in another thread).

The guy I spoke with at this dealership implied that things are pretty straightforward for Aston's coming into Canada from the US and from what I see here that seems to be the case. He said he would get the 'No Recall' letter for me and would prepare the temporary plates etc that I would need to bring it across the border.

Has anyone had any recent experiences bringing an Aston into Canada that they can share? If I get it, it will live in Toronto.

This Thread Works Both Ways...

Wow - glad I found this thread. I just bought an '09 DBS that was originally a US car from a dealer in Calgary and brought it back down into the US. I've been trying to figure out how the DRL modification was done so I can reverse it back to the original US spec. I'll be printing gecko's notes and bringing them to my dealer to see if they can reverse it. So far 6speedonline seems to be the most informative forum for Aston Martin questions - glad you guys are here.

I brought a DB7 into Canada not too long ago and you can no longer do the US border export paperwork yourself you have to have a company do it. There are many brokers that will do the paperwork for you and its cheap I paid $75.00 US. You need to have the title in your name the recall letter and bill of sale for the brokerage. The paperwork must be at the border 72 hrs before you show up with the car and the paperwork must be sent to the border crossing you are going to take the the car too. Once you get the car to the US crossing they will check the Vin and your paperwork and give you an Export paper you then take that to the Canadian border crossing they will charge you GST and Federal inspection cost and A/C tax and let you import the car. When you go to licence it in your province you will have to have the Federal inspection done and the Provincial inspection done and pay the PST. The Daytime running lights on a DB7 are very simple its a matter of putting in a jumper wire in a connection that the car has for this. PM me if you have any questions. Eddy

I think activating the led only as the DRL is doable. It would require some work to make the leds also work as the turn signals. An easier solution would be to add angel eyes to the headlamps and use them as the DRL,s or use the led as the DRL and the angel eyes as the park and turn signal lights.

The recall letter has to come from an AM . The DRLs are done with a quick computer flash , best done by the dealer .
If you are buying the car from an AM dealer in the US have them do the DRLs and supply the recall letter as part of the deal .
My Vantage came from an exotic car dealer in Chicago and they had a local AM dealer flash the computer for the DRLs but I had to get the recall letter in Canada .
I got it from Montreal AM dealer which is my closest dealer . At first they wanted 700$ CAN for it but when I got them to see reality that if they wanted me as a customer then shafting me for 700$ for a 30sec computer search and a printout wasnt exactly going to win me as a loyal customer then they backed down and emailed it to me FOC .

Daytime running lights?

When I spacial ordered my 2007 Vanatage I had Works add daytime running lights which I was charged $350, not knowing it was a software thing! On my 09 I simply never turned off the the headlight switch! No negative impact just leaving the switch on the two years I had my 09. Now my '15 has daylight running lights.
