Royal Purple Transmission Fluid Installed ...
That may be their true racing oil. True racing oils are 100% pure synthetics which is why they are so ridiculously expensive. Most over-the-counter "synthetics" are really only a minimum requirement of 30% to be called synthetics. Rarely are they pure synthetics. None the less they still provide far superior protection than pure dino-oil
I bought the Castrol TWS from my local BMW dealer as well--price was also about $20/qt. It is the OEM motor oil. I bought 6 quarts with the idea that I would probably burn oil when on the track-- keeping the car at high RPM's-- I have probably added one quart in the last year-- the car does not burn or leak oil.

Here's an approach to get Castrol TWS 10W-60 for about $145 for 10 quarts includes shipping and no tax.

My recollection is that the owners manual requires Castrol Edge Sport 10W-60 or Castrol Formula RS 10W-60.
Anyone know the difference between Aston's recommended oil and the Castrol TWS link above?
Adam
Putting this aftermarket tranny fluid wouldn't void warranty through the ESC is something happened to go wrong with the tranny correct?
UPDATE:
So I decided to put in RP 10w-40 in the engine and ended up doing the oil change yesterday. Glad I did the oil was pretty black and was in need of changing. I will report back in about a weeks time my impressions of the oil and the transmission fluid at the same time.
Thx

Just curious, do you think there is risk running 10W-40 as the manual states to use a 10W-60 or 5W-50? The manual specifically states that "No other viscosity grades specifications are acceptable."
See attached. I would like to try another brand but I don't want to jeopardize my warranty.

No, there are laws in place to prevent them just blaming the consumer. They would have to do extensive testing to prove that was the cause. And even then they would never know what oil was in there unless you told them.
To me the biggest danger of all is keeping the oem fluid in there since it has to be putting lots of wear on those syncros with all that rough shifting. If anything, tranny life should be extended through wear reduction.

similar to motor oil... one could use mobil 1 instead of castrol 1 but use the same weight and the dealer wouldn't know.

I've been following your comments with great interest and plan to change my tranny fluid to RP (How difficult is it to do that myself--Lots of Panels to remove?) Anyway, this is to follow-up on your comment about returning to Castrol 5W-50. I stopped by O'Reillys Auto Parts today (used to be Kragen) and bought a bottle of Castrol Syntec 5W-50 for $7.99+tax. It says on the bottle "Full Synthetic". So I wonder what's the difference between this Castrol and the one BMW sells for nearly 2-times that price?

Oh okay... good point about the tranny oil since I guess there isn't anything special about the RP like being a different color so the dealer wouldn't know what type of oil it is.

Actually, all RP fluids are actually purple but as oil ages it turns a dark color anyway so overtime its much more dificult to tell.
Either way its not anything that should worry you

I went to the parts department of my local BMW dealership. They are selling Castrol TWS Motorsports 10w-60 for $12.50/quart.
I don't recall but did anyone answer your inquiry about how Castrol TWS differs from Castrol Edge Sport?
Thanks,
Adam
