Can anyone else comment regarding the "magical" benefits of Royal Purple transmission fluid?

Thanks for the write up. My only complaint re: shifting my '07 is going from 1st to 2nd when it's cold outside and the car is not warmed up. Does RP help with that issue too? There is an AM mechanical fix to this issue, but, like everything Aston, it is expensive.

It does, thanks. Okay, I'm adding RP to the list of items for my dealer to address.

Cool. Nice write-up and glad to hear it helps.

I wonder if there would be any benefits to replacing the stock fluid in a sportshift with the corresponding RP????

AM lubricant compromise?

007, our Vantages use the same fluid to lubricate both their rear mounted 6 speeds and differentials. In my experience modern conventionally mounted manual transmissions use thin, waterlike automatic trans fluids and their rear mounted differentials use thicker, higher viscosity lubricants. Perhaps AM compromised, our Vantage components share the same fluid. Do you notice any RP leakage from trans/diff joints, at axle universals or torque tube joint?

007,I gather you use the Royal Purple Max-Gear 75w-90 gear oil in your transaxle. Your RP history is fantastic as is your initial experience in your Vantage. I am looking forward to your long term report as I have the same notchy, difficult to shift when cold issues mentioned above in my Vantage.

What is the motor oil that seems to work best for the Vantage, and what viscosity?

thanks, 007

My car will spend all of its time in L.A., so I want to have a motor oil that can handle that climate.

My local dealer has told me there is an AM service bulletin on the stiff gear-change issue, the fix to which is a realignment of the linkage mechanism or somesuch (at many $$$ cost). They also said a transaxle fluid change alone would not have a significant effect. I know they are in the business of generating business for themselves of course, but are you suggesting the factory recommended fix is in fact unnecessary given your RP experience?

With that said, surprisingly our gearboxes are cable controlled so there is some level of adjustment, but probably not much.

More likely than not, they just want to do what $tealers do best and charge you more.

Theres only one way to find out, try the fluid and see if you like it. If it still isn't fixed then at least you know for sure its the cables and not just some blind guess.

For under $300 its worth a shot.
Yep, it's worth a shot. Thanks.

Just wondering how you settled on RP Max Gear, instead of Mobil 1 Synthetic, RedLine Synthetic or Amsoil Severe Gear--all of which are highly rated 75W-90 Gear Oils?
