Funny my detailer was telling me that Aston has some of the best paint jobs that he sees.

I assume that by scratching you don't mean actual damage to the paint which you can feel with your fingernail, but instead you mean swirls in the paint. Swirls are all from improper detailing and washing and any car will get them. It doesn't have anything to do with the paint quality. You are right that metallics (esp silver) will show swirls much less.

Yes, swirls I meant. Sorry! My clumsy English!

But with AM you get them even from a proper wash. Most AM owners on the AMOC Forum agreed on the poor paint quality. It was extensively discussed there.

And even funnier: my detailer confirmed poor and soft paint work!

Good to know. I am leaning towards the brilliant silver now, I believe it is called titanium silver. I doubt I will find yellow so this will be my second choice.

Ohhhh, come on, I thought you were a brave boy and join us in the Yellow Club.

Silver is nice but soooooooooooooo common that it is hard not to call it boring.

But colours are, of course, a matter of taste and nothing to argue about.

I know. If yellow appears on the market I will be moving quickly. It's not over yet. :-)

Yes, I remember reading the paint quality issues at AMOC, but I still think it was isolated incidences with paint bubbling.

How did your detailer confirm the poor paint work? My detailer took a paint meter around the car to show the thickness and it was consistent and thick. You are probably right that paint quality is not as consistent as other brands, since all the painting is done by hand (I believe it takes them 50 hrs).

I'm sure there are cars with more durable paint, but I haven't noticed any difference from my Porsches or Mercedes.

Anyways, with a black car, I have minimum swirls, but I do all my washing and detailing work.

I also agree with Astonboy that if you want a yellow car, wait until one pops up otherwise you'll always be regretting the silver

Cheers

I have exactly what you are looking for-the actual Yellow is Porsche Speed Yellow special ordered from the Aston factory. 16k miles and just received its annual service at Park Place Aston Martin. I actually have been speaking with the Aston dealer up here about consigning it so selling it is certainly something I have thought about.

PM me details on what you are thinking.

Hi Mike, I tried sending a PM but I do not have enough posts yet. May I ask you to send an email to me at miniwerks@earthlink.net ? If you have photos that you could attach, that would be great. I would like to learn more about your car. Mike

I gotta admit, that yellow does look good and shows off the lines of the car nicely!
