Unhappy Aston Virgin Hill Technique Needs Help!!!

How come nobody told us: stopped on a steep hill in drive (auto transmission), the car rolled backward about 5 feet before getting forward thrust. Heck, if we had been in traffic, we would have hit the guy behind. Luckily, we were on the driveway.

Man, Porsche PDK does not do that.

I presume everybody uses 2 feet in this situation. or e-break??

Please inform this du)& a^%s before he wrecks his first AM.

Well in some ways this can also happen with a Manual. At a stop, if you get too agressive putting it into 1st, it will end up in Reverse--DAMHIK. However, a glance at the "Red R" on the panel will alert you to the fault, before you gas it and end up with reverse-thrust.

That's interesting. Remember it's not an automatic...it's an automated manual. The computer has to essentially hold the clutch just as you would if it was a regular manual. In your case I'd brake hold until you are on the gas and the release the brake as you start to move forward.

Also interesting about the manual...I have never once accidentally put it in reverse when I meant to put it in 1st.

I have not experienced this but I have also not driven mine in "auto" mode. I just let off the brake with my left foot (on a hill) and at same time give it some go with the other....no probs. One thing you do not want to do though is sit there and slip the clutch...you will know if you do as you will smell it!!!

I guess I can now truly compare Porsche PDK with AM auto mode. They are totally different. The PDK drives like it is just a really great automatic transmission. Very smooth upshift, and increadible downshift (at 60 in 7th, floor it and the PDK redlines in 2nd or 3rd, amazing). The AM auto mode feels exactly as it is billed: a manual transmission with a man-behind-the-curtain who shift gears. Really cool, best of both worlds. This may be the first car on which I will actually use the steering wheel F1 paddle shifters!
