What Made you Choose Vantage over 911?

Hey Guys, Besides the obvious looks reason. What other reasons did you choose the vantage over the 911 s or GTS? The vantage comes at a premium, however appears to not be able to keep up in the performance areas.

The reason I ask is:

Ive am torn now between a V8V S and a 911 GTS. I was originally looking at the V12V and the 911 Turbo S as comparison but think that both cars are overkill for my use.

So Why the vantage? I honestly dont know what it is I like about the car, but I do like it. However the Porsche at a lower price (especially after negotiations) seems to be hard to pass up.

Additionally, what kind of discounts are you negotiating with the dealer? How much off of MSRP will they go?

Besides looks? You see one hundred 911s for every Vantage you see on the road. Also, the fit and finish of the Aston are far superior and make driving the car feel like an event. Furthermore, you can't beat the sound of that big V8.

I traded my 07 997 Turbo for an 08 V8V Roadster and even if I miss my Porsche a lot I absolutely adore the Vantage. Of course performance wise it is not even close to be as fast as the Porsche but the engine sound alone makes me forget that. The vantage is overall a very fun car to drive and is very comfortable. The Vantage's Alpine premium sound system is much better than the Porsche's Bose even though I rarely put it on because of how good the exhaust note is :-). Finally the look of the car both inside and outside is phenomenal it is one of the best looking car I have ever seen and I get compliments about it any time I drive it. I do not own it long enough to say if it is as reliable as the Porsche but I hope it comes close because the Porsche was bullet proof. I wish I were able to own both the Porsche and the Vantage but I absolutely do not regret my choice.

Between my GF and I we have owned 10 Porsches. Everything from an 84 911 cab to a 997 Cup Car. Currently she has a Cayman S and my daily is a Cayenne GTS.

I'm not sure there is any rational reason to pick an AM over a Porsche. I did it on pure emotion but that's why we own sports cars right. I love the look, the sound, the overt sexyness of the V8V. No regrets here.

If I break down all my analysis as to why I choose Aston over Porsche it really comes down to one thing - rarity.

Had Carreras, GT3, turbo, Cayenne, and 944, so I'm no Porsche hater. The 911S is just a little bit better in acceleration, cornering, and braking. However, there are a lot of things in the Aston which pushed me toward it- the looks, exhaust, interior, and intagibles.

Had the car for a year and absolutely love it.

I have had 2 911's. A 996 C2 and 996 turbo. Both had enormous problems. They are not as bullet proof as people make out.

The Aston makes you feel very special. Much more then a 'coupe beetle' as Clarkson once called them.

Power wise and drivability 911 probably is slightly better but some tuning to the Aston and it could be easily on a par.

The best answer is simple - go drive one. Either you get it or you don't. The first line of this article is pretty much spot on:

http://www.thesmokingtire.com/2010/a...-wears-carbon/

I have owned two 911 turbos in the past and was seriously contemplating picking up the new one when it is available. It should be a 2.5 second car to 60 and will most likely have incredible handling.

I'm getting the V12V. It's slower and more expensive - and it will make me smile more than any P-car ever will.

Seriously, go drive one.

Like I used to tell people on the Ferrari boards, buying a car like this as not a rational decision. It's all emotion. You buy one because you have always wanted one. All the other reasons mentioned in this list apply too, but I firmly believe its emotion that pulls the trigger, so to speak. A Porsche isn't particularly exotic these days, and the Aston Martin is just so well put together and so beautiful. As far as speed goes, both cars will go fast enough to get you a serious ticket. If you really really want speed, spend 1/2 as much as either car on an F-1000 and hit the track. If you can handle it, you won’t be disappointment.

Yes, I've seen, and participated in, this debate over and over. I guess it comes with the territory with an Aston. Yes, there are faster cars you can buy for less money, but I'll still take the Aston. If I just wanted to go fast and nothing else mattered, I probably would have gone with a ZR1 or a GT-R and pocketed the additional cash. However, I can't see buying either of them over an Aston.

i'm in the market for a Vantage. i drove a bunch of different cars (tons of BMW 6's, 335's, M3s, Jag XF-Supercharged, Lexus IS-F, Jag XK-R -didn't get farther than the parking lot because i hated the interior, 997 C2S, and a few others). between the 911 and the Vantage, the AM was far more enjoyable. the 911 was an amazing car - nothing wrong with it at all. but the Vantage made me giddy, and that's what i want.

Driving it is what really threw me. Can't put my finger on what I love about it. I have always been able to rationalize my craziness for cars but this decision has me perplexed. At this point I am leaning towards a v8v s. Any reason to not get the S vs standard v8v? I like the flappy paddle gearbox so that doesn't come into my equation
