Continued Intake / Vacuum Noise After Engine Shut Down
Continued Intake / Vacuum Noise After Engine Shut Down
Hi everyone,
So I have another noise question for you all. Prior to taking the car out for a weekend run, I always check the oil level by first running the engine for about 20-30 seconds and then checking the dip stick.
I recently noticed that when I shut the engine down after those first 20-30 seconds, there is a continued intake / vacuum noise that lasts for another 25 seconds or so, despite the engine being shut down.
Here is a video link so you guys can clearly hear what I am talking about.

I should point out that after my drives (i.e., once the engine is warm), there is no continued intake / vacuum noise. This only happens when the engine is cold.
I should also point out that my local AM dealer recently performed the 3-year service on my car, in which the air filters were replaced. Could it be that something was not put back properly?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Eric

Haven't listened to the video, but what you described is called secondary air injection..it's normal. There are pumps under the upper intake manifold(in the valley) that perform this duty..if the drive cycle for the secondary air starts, it will continue a few seconds after shut down..again..normal(this operation only works when engine is cold to achieve better/pass-able exhaust emissions)..if there was a fault with this system, being emissions related a MIL would activate.
