There are too many salt and salt water resistant materials on the market to overlook this.

As a matter of fact, Federal Law here in the United States dictates that car bodies and frames must last a minimum of 10 years before showing significant igns of rust and scaling.
No one has said they won't cover them on warranty ( yet )

The AM "Service" location in Tyson's?

Here is an update on my side view mirror arm deterioration repair. The new Aston Martin Branch opened in Tyson's Corner, and they claim it would have only been covered in the first 3 years. CPO will not cover it. It looks like my only real option is cleaning and powder coating.

BTW, the service at the new branch is horrendous. I've been there once a week over the last 4 weeks to check in on the status of this claim, and each time they have to re-enter it into the system. I still have not gotten a call back on costs to fix this. To be honest they have never called me.

I have to also mention that during my 4th visit to check the status on this service request, the regional service manager was onsite (I may have his title wrong). He looked at the problem and said "it IS an old car!". What a *****.

Let me know if anyone else has had any luck with this new service location, I give them a failing grade.

^^^ ben did you work directly with service manager dedrick haggins? Last I went there they were getting setup and had just gotten lifts put into the service bays. He informed me they anticipated servicing a lot of clients and were gearing up for this demand. Are they still in process of getting ready or are they fully up and running at this point?

Sunir! Yes, as far as I knew he was the only person in the service department until my last visit. He now has an attractive female assistant, and it looked like she entered me into the system (for the 4th time). As far as I can tell they have been operational for these last 4 weeks. The reason I say that, is that they were willing to take my car in to perform the annual service on it. Since I don't want it in and out twice, I told them I would hold off until I had a solution for the mirror wing.

They just need to utilize some sort of system for service requests, and communicate the status with their clients.

If it was mine and couldn't get it covered under warranty, I would mask off the trouble area, lightly sand w/ 500 grit sand paper to make surface uniform then paint w/ plasti-dip. It will give you a nice textured black surface and is easily peeled off if you mess it up. GL Do a google search you will see alot of people using it to black out trim, grills, wheels etc.

Genital warts are at least hidden in your pants!

I finally did hear back from Hans, the general manager at the NEW Tyson's Aston Martin Dealer. He was very embarrassed on how I was over looked for these past few weeks. It's a new location, so fair enough I'll give them another chance. They quoted me $1k to replace the mirror wing (parts and labor), as it's not covered under the CPO. They also quoted me $1k to replace the wiper arms.

Sunir, do you really think you can match it that well? For under $1k, I'm tempted to just have them do it. As for the wipers, there is just a small speck where it is flaking away (see image attached)

I plan to pressure Dallas Aston Martin for covering up this defect. I doubt they didn't notice it when they sold it to me a year ago.

Thanks again for all your help and support on this issue!

Ben

^^^ben just bite the bullet and let's take care of it... I think we have a good shot of a color match. I was actually thinking that we could do both left and right mirror arms to get a perfect match, trick is to treat the surface to get all the leppracy and corrosion off. Plus it won't cost much at all for a try so if it doesn't look the way you want you can go to the dealer then.

Just a thought buddy... I doubt Dallas is gonna do anything you'd just be wasting ur time haggling, our new local dealer can help but ur still outta pocket a grand and who knows how long it'll take or what else they may ding ya for ... I say we try to see what we can do w it here first... Heck if nothing else maybe a good body shop can strip down the corrosion and re-spray the part... Lots of guys are using plasti-dip it may do the job just fine.

Just a FINAL update on the genital warts on my car (thanks Sunir). I had the mirror wing replaced today by the New Aston Martin Service Center in Vienna, VA. The parts and service for this were rather cheap.

I decided to keep the old part, however. I've read in multiple places that the material in this part was changed in 2008, with something that does not corrode. I've also heard that the materials might have been changed in mid year, and many other excuses. Of course many people with 2006 and 2007 are not having this issue (also occurs on the windshield wipers), but this is absolutely a manufacturer's defect.

If anyone has had this corrosion in the past, please let me know.. With pictures.

A final note about the new service center in Vienna, VA; things have changed completely. I started ccing Hans on my service requests, and he made things happen. If you are in the area for service, make sure to talk to Nathan in Service. My car was serviced and mirror arm was replaced by the next day.

-- Not a plug, but I did completely bash them earlier in this thread; and now I'm 100% satisfied with their reaction & service.

- Ben

My 08' Vantage has the exact same problem. I just had it in to get my cats, exhaust, and air filters installed and the service guy decided he would submit a warranty claim under the 10 year corrosion coverage. No news yet on if they will replace the parts under warranty, but I'll post when I have an answer.

If you don't get it covered, keep the old arm. We should send AM a big box of all the defective arms.

Good luck on the warranty replacement!

Good News!

In my best Professor Farnsworth voice...

Good News Everyone!!

MY 2008 Vantage had the same corroded mirror arms and Aston Martin does seem to be replacing them under the corrosion warranty.

Right now I am waiting for a replacement fuel door hinge as mine broke and I could not get any fuel into the car. I should get my car back early next week, and at that point I will be able to see exactly what is written on my repair order.

Once I get that in my hands we will know for sure, and you can refer to my case as proof that Aston Martin does cover this under the corrosion warranty. I'm not sure if there are any extenuating circumstances on the repair order, but I think we are very close to having the president set for this repair.

This is great news. I'm looking forward to getting my money back for this repair.

Are you also getting any corrosion on the wiper blade arms? Specifically right at the motor?

OK. I can officially tell you all that Aston Martin did cover my corroded rear view mirror arms under the corrosion warranty. For the record my car is an 08 Vantage V8.
