Gearbox/Transaxle Oil

The owners manual specifies Shell Transaxle 75W/90,but I can't seem to source it anywhere.

A while back, there was a detailed thread regarding the miracle of Royal Purple, but once a couple forum members put it in, some felt the car drove worse cold (notchiness).

Anyone tried any other transaxle/gearbox oils?

Irish/AM Fixer, what are you installing now at the dealer?

I checked my MY09 owner's manual. It says that the transaxle oil is Castrol BOT 270A (with a footnote that it is only available from AM dealers).

And the Sportshift fluid is Pentosin CHF-11S.

Perhaps you can use the same transaxle oil as the MY09 and up?

And I also remember reading a while back about owner's complaining about notchiness in the shifting....and if I recall correctly, one the dealer fixes was to change out the transaxle fluid to something newer/better. It could be that the original fluid they used was the Shell one you referenced and this Castrol fluid is the newer/better fluid.

Thanks Macksamus, I also remember hearing about the dealer changing out transaxle fluid for something better. Did a search but could not find the thread.

Perhaps AMFixer or Irish can comment on what they use, and if Castrol is best.

I did RP can't really notice a difference, notchiness still there but I might actually need that cable fixed.

Yes like Macksamus says the Castrol BOT 270A is what we use in the dealer. The Pentosin is used in the in the shift unit or ASM not in the transmission, the transmission still uses the Castrol BOT. The newer fluid was to help with the notchy fell. Some cars also had a update to the bell crank for the shifter cables to help with the fell.

I'm running with LiquidMoly 75w90. Seems much smoother than whatever the previous owner had before (likely the OEM).

Give the Royal Purple a try, or others like it. They use it on the same transmissions which ferrari or maserrati use as well, plus its much cheaper than the castrol which is over $200

I'm getting my cable fixed in a couple weeks and leaving the RP I will report on the findings, also getting my clutch replaced by RSC's lighter, better unit. Hopefully its a 1, 2 knockout on the terrible shifting between 1st and 2nd

There seems to be a mixed bag of opinions on the matter. In the Ferrari/Maserati transaxles I service Redline 75w90NS is installed, along with a couple ounces of friction modifier if differential chatter exists.

In the Italian cars, a stiff 2nd gear when cold is very normal behavior. It should smoothen out with temperature though.

I find it likely that the shift linkage correction via bulletin 0236 is more likely to help than swapping the oil.

I wonder if anyone in the Aston community has tried Redline. We do have a Graziano

AM FIXER, you can clarify more on the subject of the lever is hard to change from 1 to 2,
that is what you do, as a distributor, to solve the hardness in the gear.

also abusing some of their collaboration, you could indicate as you do yourself to change the gearbox oil,
where the points of emptying and filling and all that comes to mind.

thanks in advance
P.S. is there anyway to get the Castrol BOT 270 A, outside
