Cleaning Throttle Butterfly - V8 Engines

hey everyone,

The V8 Vantage Vehicle Maintenance Sheet that was issued in March '07 states that the throttle butterfly should be cleaned every 4 years (see below).

However, the AM Vehicle Maintenance Check Sheet (which covers the V8 Vantage) that was issued in January '12 states that the throttle butterflies should be cleaned every 4 years BUT only with respect to the V12 vehicles (see below).

So my question is when do the throttle butterflies for the V8's get cleaned? I know that at least one of my local AM dealers is going off of the '12 Maintenance Sheet when servicing vehicles.

The V12 PCV inlet is on the before side of the throttle, which gets the butterfly of the throttle gum'd up and gets it to stick. The V8's have the PCV inlet after the throttle, so the amount of oil is a lot less that would come in contact with the V8 throttle, so cleaning is not needed as compared to the V12's....so when would you clean the V8 throttle=only if needed, aka a fault is stored for such, otherwise it's not needed..there is no harm iN cleaning it every year or even every 4 years, but it's not needed if you are following the maintence spec for your air filters for V8's

Just make sure you use a silicone safe throttle body cleaner (some are not, it will say on the bottle). Many modern throttle bodies have a thin coating of silicone on them to ensure slippery smooth operation, so this ensures that coating stays intact. Usually very couple of years will help. Won't make a huge difference but usually it will help smoothen out idle a little bit. Don't expect any power lol
